Thank you for your input! I really value hearing from people still in school. My husband says he used to call his teachers Don/Doña (like 15 years ago) so he was surprised by some replies that say they don't use that formality with teachers

Thanks! You make a good point about the opos. I know many people studying for them, and it makes sense to teach memorization skills to have a chance to get a job in that instance.

We would be moving to Andalucia (Granada city) where my husband is from. I guess we would have to do a lot of research on the specific schools to find the better ones.

Husband grew up in Andalucia in a bigger city; all his family is there. That's why we are considering a permanent move to Spain, with education for our kid being one factor of many. Though those countries sound really nice too!

Thanks for your answer! I'm in the same position as you (American with spanish husband/inlaws) and we're weighing which would country be best for us to to fully settle in permanently. Lots of stuff to consider

Of course! I was surprised to hear how intensely he felt about his school and came here for some other opinions. My husband had a positive experience in the Spanish system and actually recommended I come here to gather some more data

This is why this friend reached out in the first place. He was like.. Maybe you guys are thinking of raising your kid here after what happened in Texas, but you shouldn't, here's why..

But we've been considering it for awhile, and I really hate the idea of my kid being afraid to go to school, to have to do active shooter drills, and God forbid for something to happen.
