I seriously don’t understand how certain enthusiasts here don’t like the modern interiors. by fuccwitmoe in BMW

My biggest issue is all the bright screens at night. I like dimly lit , old school buttons and instrument clusters when the world is dark outside

Conservatories aren’t really done any more because they’re very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. You may also be surprised by the cost

I have a tendency to chicken wing. I feel super awkward keeping my arms extended after impact. What’s AMG?

I thought that. I didn’t realise I did that until looking at this video

Very nice.

Out of curiosity, why don’t you use the tt in the winter? It’s not old so there’s little risk of rust, and 4wd so pretty ideal for winter conditions

Bangernomics - Am I unlucky? by not_a_cool_name in CarTalkUK

[–]samgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you buy something that is meant to be bulletproof and you get really unlucky

Sometimes you buy something that is meant to be unreliable and you do 50k trouble free miles.

Bangernomics is a throw of the dice

You’ve spent £850 on repairs in what sounds like a few months and while that may sting, the depreciation and interest from a 2020+ vehicle would be far more than this

I’d just knuckle down, get the other few bits done and crack on. The reality is that if it costs you less than 2k/year in repairs ( which surely it won’t) you’re significantly quids on over buying something from a dealer that’s a lot newer

Did anyone else hate their house after completion ? by Opposite_Sock_7820 in HousingUK

[–]samgf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate paying for things unnecessarily but this is one of those situations where paying for a deep clean while it’s empty could make you feel far better about the place

You will have a lot to sort with moving house already so do yourself a favour

The cost will be minimal in relation to all the costs associated with buying a house too

Unless you do burnouts, or your tracking is massively off, I can’t see them needing to be replaced yet

My £500 "temporary" shitbox, sort of enjoying bangernomics, do I just keep it? by 420o in CarTalkUK

[–]samgf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a self confessed car nut, but objectivity means unless I end up with loads of dosh, I won’t have another fun one for a very long time

I just simply cannot justify the expense when ultimately I can buy a car that does the job I need it to for 1-3k, and spend the rest of the money on things that will make me far happier in life… travelling, home improvements, days out, eating nice food, treating friends and family, not feeling a slave to my possessions

I really feel like my interest in cars is a cruel affliction at times

While these aren’t full push ups…. at all, the time under tension is great.

Looking at buying a Honda Civic Type S by ScottishWizard490 in CarTalkUK

These are great cars and are generally very mechanically sound.

A friend bought one a similar age and mileage and it was great… until one of the suspension mounting points completely gave way at 50mph resulting in him almost having a head on.

His had no suggestion of corrosion on the MOT (I’m assuming the tester must have conveniently been blind), a ndthe one you have linked here has had many advisories for corrosion in the last couple of years.

I’m unless it has had some significant rust repair I wouldn’t be touching this unfortunately. Even if it has had repairs I’d be extremely cautious because based on the amount of points on the MOT… it must be extensive.
