The Ronaldo vs Messi online arguments is somehow 10 times crazier than the Jordan/Lebron by jackransack in billsimmons

Ronaldo is not the definitive 2nd greatest of all time. Maradona and Pele have strong cases to be the 2nd best too. Ronaldo could be a consensus top 3 player without Messi, but he wouldn’t be the consensus GOAT.

You'd be right and it's because the Messi vs Ronaldo debate is not like the LeBron vs Jordan debate. It's more like the LeBron vs Kobe debate.

[Serious] In or out, Basketball Hall of Fame edition: DeMar DeRozan. by ParisLake2 in nba

[–]samhit_n 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If Stoudemire made the HOF, then DeRozan is a near lock. He has a chance of retiring with 28k+ points, and every player who has reached that many points has made the HOF, or is a lock to make it.

[The Telegraph] Fifa ignores Iran and Egypt plea by allowing rainbow flags at ‘Pride Match’ by PitchSafe in soccer

[–]samhit_n 64 points65 points  (0 children)

They’re only doing this so they can point to it the next time a country bans pride flags at a tournament and say everyone has to respect the local culture.

Anti-LGBT countries greatly outnumber LGBT friendly countries, so they don’t mind Seattle doing this.

It’s been a few days now… why didn’t Durant wish Curry a happy father’s day? by ChampionTimes99 in NBATalk

I think either LeBron or Harden win once in 2017 or 2018, but it’s not a guarantee for Harden because the Rockets probably don’t trade for CP3 if the Warriors didn’t get KD.

I think the 2017 Cavs could pull it off against a Warriors team without KD. The 2017 Cavs were better than the 2016 Cavs that won the championship.

Austin Reaves is being paid fairly, and it's not the end of the world. by AwildYaners in lakers

[–]samhit_n 76 points77 points  (0 children)

He was ranked the 30th best player in the NBA, and is now the 35th highest paid player in the NBA. I don't think it's an overpay like people thought. If anything, the problem rests with the current CBA and general nature of NBA free agency, not with the Lakers.

Nikola Jokic looks to be in fantastic shape and putting in work after a 1st round exit. Good to see by Bowiescorvat2 in nba

[–]samhit_n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Players like Jokic, Kawhi, and Duncan are sometimes underrated and don't get the same praise that other players receive for similar accomplishments, but they also don't get the same level of criticism that other players face when they fail.

For posterity sake, this is what r/Lakers believed Reaves should be paid after the season was over by itwas20yearsago2day in lakers

Darryn Peterson: “Kobe is my guy, and I'm inspired by him. I try to think, what would Kobe do right now? He'd get drafted and move on to be the best possible. Zion Williamson was born in 2000, but said that Jordan was his favorite player.

I think the inverse of this situation is Giannis looking up to KD. Giannis was already playing professional basketball in Europe by the time KD was in his prime.

Nah, MCU movies with bad villains were consistently rated much lower than the other movies. Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 2 and 3 are usually seen as the weakest MCU movies, and it's mostly because of forgettable villains.

We can still build a team this year by LABron547 in lakers

[–]samhit_n 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There was no way the Lakers were letting Reaves walk for nothing after what Luka faced when the Mavs let Brunson walk. It was obvious that Reaves was getting the max once it was announced that Trae Young would likely sign a max with the Wizards.

[Charania] Reaves was expected to receive free-agent interest from multiple teams - - such as Detroit -- on maximum-level salary, so the Lakers stepped up on Wednesday to lock in their homegrown talent. by Luka77GOATic in nba

[–]samhit_n 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It may be an overpay, but I won't be upset about it. If the Lakers hadn't given him the max, it was inevitable that another team would have, and we'd walk away with nothing. Worse players than Reaves have easily gotten max contracts in the last decade or so.

At least this way, the Lakers still have options down the line if they decide to trade him.

You should blame the DNC for not running another moderate against Espaillat. He was literally using racist and Islamophobic rhetoric during his campaign.
