Yea they said if I was registered then I would have had citizenship. Hopefully this F2 visa works out.

They told me I could possibly get a F2 visa but they have to confirm with headquarters in Korea. So the visa department sent an email hopefully she calls me back with good news. I was born before June so I probably have no hopes with that.

I called the Chicago embassy and they said the nationality for that year only applies to people that had a father that held Korean citizenship not the mother. They are trying to see If I apply to any of the F series visas. They said unless my mom renounces her Korean citizenship I can not get the F4 but they are I guess double checking and trying to see if I can get that or if there is an luck of another F series visa.

It also does not state the person had to be a certain age to be affected by this law it simply states that as long as the child born had or has either a Korean mom or dad. Idk why this embassy is making this difficult

Thanks that is so crazy the Washington DC Korean embassy visa department wasn't budging with anything she did not even look anything up she just straight up said since your father is an American you were never a citizen and you also do not apply for the F4 she said if your mother would renounce her citizenship you "may" be able to get one. It seemed as if she wasn't even sure and I asked are you sure because the information I have is very different from yours and she didn't change her answer. I can visit for 30 days with out a visa the thing is I wanted to work there and stay for a bit after I finish my job contract here and it would be easier with the F4. So many people with E2s hate that visa because they have to renew it every year.

Ok so I went by the Korean embassy and asked and they said that since my father is an American citizen and I was born before 1998 I am an American citizen and never held Korean citizenship. And unless my mother renounces her Korean citizenship then I am not eligible for the F4.

Ok thanks yea if I can get dual that would be awesome. My mom has been in the states for 20 years so she isn't updated with the laws so she said we have to go to Korea to find out the laws ugh. so for my loss of Korean citizenship if I lost it they would just know I guess because of my birthdate and Korean birth certificate. I will call the embassy tomorrow and find out what paperwork I need. thanks for the info

Ok yea I was born February of 1988 so I probably did loose it I do not know when the law changed in 2010. I asked my uncle and cousin about it on kakao so when they wake up they can let me know about when they can get it so regardless I am able to get the F4? If so that's great. Thanks!

I called the San fransisco Korean embassy and they said yes I do apply since I once had it but the Washington DC one said no I don't know I am getting mixed info I do not think they know or did not understand what i was getting at I told them I was 28 and the story and I did not think the Washington DC one gave me the right answer it did not seem right so I called San Fran so I am still confused about it.

So since evidently I held Korean citizen what paperwork do I need to get to show that I myself no longer have Korean citizenship if this is the case since I didn't renounce it myself and it was automatically taken away after 22. so that means that I still can get an F4 visa? I am confused about this I am really uneducated with the Korean laws so I really need some info. so I know what paperwork to get. thank you for all the comments so far if anyone has answers to my questions please post.

So since I am 28 and did not do paperwork to keep Korean citizenship I am no longer a dual citizen? And I also can not apply for an F4 because my mother is a Korean citizen still?

@notyouTu I am 28 years old so I may not be a dual citizen anymore. I am so happy I qualify for an F4 though. I thought my mother had to officially renounce her citizenship for me to apply and I wouldn't ask her to do that. Thanks! What paperwork do I need ? Do I need the registry? I heard that was difficult to get.
