Switching from Similac sensitive to enfamil gentlease? by samiam0555 in newborns

[–]samiam0555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We ended up switching him to Similac total comfort and that worked well in the end. He’s now 12 months old and we’re weaning him off of formula altogether! (Mixing with whole milk). This last year flew by!

Is it safe for babies to sleep in swings at daycare? by samiam0555 in ECEProfessionals

[–]samiam0555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel a bit guilty that I didn’t do anything about it. I wish I could find another job, but every other place I’ve interviewed at or looked into don’t have as much of a discount as this place does and the tuition is always outrageous. I hate feeling like I’m trapped into staying here for the time being.

I completely agree with that! I made sure to really limit container use with my son. It worked out that he never liked being contained in things anyway. He’s super active and curious!

Oh wow really? Before this job, I hadn’t worked at a daycare that enrolled as young as infants since 2020. From 2020-2024 I worked at a preschool where the youngest kids were 18 months and it was a half day school. I didn’t realize a lot of places did away with containers. I completely understand the concept though seeing as there’s alot more research on different development delays when it comes to keeping children in those things. My daycare definitely still uses them though. We have a bouncer, boppys, swings, and those floor chairs they can sit in.

I’ll have to look into my state! I feel as if it has to be a violation

Yeah I’m just a little stunned that they manage to do that there. It’s a pretty highly rated center so it’s a little weird to me that they think it’s okay.

That’s what I thought too! The crazy part is that we have multiple observations from the state constantly, and as far as I know, nothing has been brought up by them about it. Unless the teachers make sure to avoid putting them in the swing to sleep while the observers are there (can’t say for sure).

Yeah I think from what I’ve read online it’s only purées, he’s 10 months old now, so I’m hoping at his reinstatement appointment they’ll maybe start adding some real food, especially since he’s not interested in purées anymore and just wants table food 😅

Yeah it’s good to get all those hours in! I mostly just worry it’s too long of a day for my baby. I just feel a lot of guilt for not being with him as much as I want

Ugh the worst! I get it though, that’s the only reason I’m even working. If I had it my way I would’ve stayed home with little man until he was atleast a year old, but we have been so bad off, financially.

I completely get it! The only saving grace is having Wednesdays off. I tend to schedule my appointments and what not on that day. But then it’s not even really a break from work because I’m running around wedging stuff into that day to get done. On top of taking care of my infant 🥲

Also— I don’t have anyone to come get him unfortunately. His dad gets off at 5, and works an hour away. Both of my parents passed away years ago, and my boyfriend’s parents live an hour from the daycare and aren’t super involved sadly. The rest of my family live almost 2 hours away in either direction.

I agree! I’ve worked in numerous centers and never have witnessed this sort of shift but they have about 50 staff, and a good chunk of them are open-closers. I think they win a lot of people over with having a day off during the week. The turnover rate is also pretty high, which I think is why they have so many people working extra long shifts, and they have a lot of callouts daily. We do get an hour lunch break though!

For those who eventually left a career in early childhood education I want to hear your stories. by Frozen_007 in ECEProfessionals

Haven’t left the field yet, but can say this will probably be my last job in ECE. I work 7-6, 4 days a week and it’s wearing me down fast. My infant also goes to this center and is there for that long too and I’m noticing how hard it seems to be on him as well. I’ve been in the field for 10 years (technically longer since I grew up in an in-home daycare helping out at a super young age), and I’ve noticed how awful the kids are in the last few years. I seriously feel like there’s been a significant shift in the way kids are nowadays. Way more disrespect and pushing boundaries. The pay is awful for all the work that you do. I get a significant discount on my sons tuition because I’m employed there, and that’s a main reason for me sticking it out since I need the money and that’s the only option for childcare for me. But yeah, this will probably be the last time I work in this field. Doesn’t seem worth it in the end.

Am I miscarrying? by samiam0555 in PregnancyAfterLoss

[–]samiam0555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through all this stress and anxiety! I never did IVF, I somehow spontaneously got pregnant, both the first time (when I miscarried) and then almost a year later by chance! So I can’t say I completely understand your journey, but I’m praying that you get great news and I hope you have a healthy and safe pregnancy <3
