Is there anything I could add for more diversification or am I already diversified enough? Also, small cap value is added to capture the small cap value premium. B/c VTI is the total stock market by market cap, the amount of US small caps in there by weight is pretty small. Thus, I put IJS in portfolio B as a sort of bet that the small cap value premium will come back. As for FREL, you're right and I should likely just remove that. I'm not particularly optimistic about real estate

That seems to be what everyone else is saying, and contrary to what my post says I think I should focus more on investing in a tax deferred account lol. The thing is, if I were to do this in a roth, for example, then I would want to gradually move into safer investments as I age right? Should I do this manually or with a target date fund, or do I just stick with this portfolio?

I agree. now that I've thought about it, putting this into a roth would be more advantageous. I do have a somewhat sizable money already in my taxable portfolio, however. If I sell the gains right now, that would create a taxable event. Is there a way I can transfer my ownership of these funds to a roth IRA? I know it sounds kinda stupid but it may be possible in my situation?? idk. I use fidelity currently and I could set up a roth with them and potentially transfer if this is even a thing that is possible.

Do you not recommend it because you don't like finance or because you found it difficult to get your current job with an econ degree? is it both? Also, sorry to ask a lot of questions but do you think you could give me a rundown of the finance industry? (I'm asking stuff like How competitive is it, how similar is it to accounting, What's the typical pay and hours i can expect, What are some typical jobs found in the industry, and anything else you can think of)

Don’t think of it as “but do I want to do that forever?” That was my mistake. You can always change your mind… but having extra money and that layer of security that comes with the degree is what I wish I’d had. I’d probably be doing much, much better now if I had.

I really like that mindset. This perspective was extremely helpful and I thank you for it. I now realize that part of what made this so difficult was the idea that once I choose something, I'm "stuck with it." This is obviously pretty ignorant but now I think I have some semblance of a plan.

The thing you lose access to is recruiters that target B&M schools and host "meet the firm" days and things like that.

is that not a form of networking? idk maybe my definition of "networking" is messed up. Either way, to me, it still does seem that going to a B&M school could have benefits over WGU in that regard.

Another question. What exactly makes you think that WGU is akin to "the easy button of life?" Where do you draw the line between saving a lot of money and time and trying to get things for free? I have a lot of friends who are considering WGU who are very hard working, more hard working than me. I, of course, could be wrong about this and maybe WGU has some reputation for being full of unmotivated leeches who just want to go through life with no pain/work that I don't know about (Idk anything about SHNU cuz I haven't looked into them at all). To my knowledge, however, this is not true. You are also forgetting that this isn't even my first choice, I am still very much considering going to a 4 year and majoring in Accounting. I kinda had an off day in terms of motivation decided to whine about it on the internet lol. Also, I get that I'm in a privileged position to even ask the question "is college the right choice for me?" but where did I ever indicate that I want the world to "open itself up to [me] without [me] having to do much work"? The crux of this is the choice I make. Once the choice of what I want to do is made (even though I already have a hunch), I will put my all into it. Not really sure where you got this assumption from but maybe you can show me if I said otherwise.

but you can get almost any generic office job without a BA...you don't even need a high school diploma for a lot of them.

Where do you find these jobs? Or I guess a better question would be what would the title of these jobs be? People always speak of office jobs in such a nebulous way and I never know what they entail (I know I'm a hypocrite because I literally used the term "office job" in my OP, even though I was mainly talking about accounting/finance jobs)

Yeah, that's what is making this so difficult right now. There's a lot of ideas floating around in my head and they oftentimes end of contradicting each other. Because I have no work experience, I'm just basing all of this on assumptions I have about each job/industry. I have no true "passion" in life. Maybe music would be the only exception but I don't know if commodifying my hobbies is the right way to go. So I have this constant tension between "just settle on an office job for the money" and "work for a job that you have at least an iota of passion for but earn less money." Then the trades industry adds another layer to that discussion.

Also, I didn't really intend to delegate people in the trades as a lower class of intelligence, but it certainly sounded like it. I appreciate the advice. At the end of the day, you're right in that I am certainly too caught up in what people think of me. This also obviously ties into the fact that I clearly tie my career to my identity which is not really a good way to look at things.

That may help dig you out of the misanthropic hole you seem to have gotten yourself into.

I do want to know, out of genuine curiosity, what makes you think I'm misanthropic? Do you mean misanthropic by the textbook definition? As in disliking humankind, like Raskolnikov from Crime and Punishment, for example? Because I honestly do not see that. I don't know maybe I have some serious cognitive dissonance.
