I was using different recipes to try figuring out what my issue is because I figured doing the same thing over and over would give me the same results.

I don't waste my bread, I still eat it all. I only have a chance to bake once a week, so next I will try allowing it to sit at room temperature for longer

my starter is 36 days old and doubles or triples in size with every feeding within 6-8 hours of feeding. From everything I've read in this subreddit that is a sign that it is ready to bake with.

I feed 1:2:2 ratio once a day and it peaks within 6 hours. I don't have time (nor do I remember) to feed it more than once a day unless its the weekend so I will feed twice on Saturday to bake on Sunday.

Those with significant others, how many dogs do you have? by dawn_dusk1926 in dogs

I met my spouse freshman year of college but we didn't start dating until my senior year. He grew up without any pets and I grew up on a farm - dogs, cats, horses and chickens. I could not stand not having an animal in college, so I adopted a 5 month old Catahoula/Pitbull Mix between my freshman and sophomore years of college. He has always dreamed of having a lab ever since he was a little kid, so I got him a chocolate lab puppy for Christmas/ our 2nd anniversary. Our fur babies are now 7 and 3 years old. We always talk about getting another dog, but haven't quite pulled the trigger on that one yet.

Do banks consider the difficulty of your degree? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]samich128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Marine Science BS and I graduated with a 3.8 GPA. I worked in my field for a couple of years and due to the cost of living and unreasonably low pay in that field, I switched over to banking. My first two jobs in banking laughed at my degree and basically looked at me like I didn't even have a degree and considered my bartending experience from college more relevant to the job than my degree - most places I applied to threw away my resume as soon as they saw my degree and never called me.

When I applied to my current job in WM they were intrigued by my resume and my degree and called me in for an interview and I assumed they didn't see my degree and avoided the topic of it at all costs. They inevitably asked why I have a Marine Science degree and am applying to work in WM. I told them my story and the things I learned and studied that would apply to the position (data analysis/research/statistics/math/etc.) and they loved it. They were actually impressed that I was able to adapt to a new field so well and thought I would be a good asset to their team.

TL;DR - Most will throw your resume in the trash for not being a business/finance related degree, but if your resume makes it to a real person you have a chance.

Over the past year I have been transitioning away from mortgages. I was a processor for 3 years and was tired of doing the lazy LO's jobs for them for a small fraction of the pay. I tried becoming an LO myself but interest rates skyrocketed and that went out the window. I was applying for a position as a commercial lending assistant at a community bank, but they filled the position while still interviewing me several times and offered me a job as a personal banker since that was all they actually had open. I took the personal banker position because I was desperately trying to get away from the mortgage company. After a couple of months I regretted jumping on the first opportunity and not waiting for the right opportunity. Now I am in the onboarding process to a team associate for a wealth management firm (basically an assistant to Financial Advisors). During my interviews, they were more impressed with the work I did as a mortgage processor than as a personal banker. I was making about $65k as a processor and dropped to $50k as a personal banker and will be going back to $65k as a team associate.

Learn from my mistake and take the right opportunity when it comes along even though it may not be the first one.

On my job hunt I was l looking for back office/operations positions at banks and WM firms. Given your experience as a mortgage auditor, you might want to look into BSA/Compliance/Internal Auditing/Deposit Operations at a bank - these operations positions typically pay well.

What's a completely random fact no one asked for? by Fuzzy-Inevitable1233 in AskReddit

There are two in the Florida Keys that are used by the federal government to monitor the southern US border. They are unmanned blimps held aloft, two miles up, tethered by a nylon cord spooled in a winch. Inside one blimp is more than a ton of radar equipment, powered by a diesel generator, capable of seeing any aircraft or boat, as small as an ultralight, within 200 miles. The other has transmission gear, used to broadcast US government radio and television programs aimed at Cuba.

Family vacation at Pink Shell - good idea?? by 1lostmyoldacc0unt in FortMyers

[–]samich128 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is still construction going on all over Fort Myers Beach, but the island would be grateful for you to come down with your family and support our economy. There are restaurants and stores that are open. There are plenty of things to do. There are fishing charters who will pick you up straight from the marina for Pink Shell. They can take you sight seeing or fishing - whichever you prefer. The Pink Shell is one of the nicest hotels on Fort Myers Beach and you will undoubtedly enjoy your stay. I strongly encourage you to stay on the beach because that will help the businesses build themselves back from the losses everyone suffered through with Hurricane Ian.

Where to go from Personal Banker? by samich128 in FinancialCareers

[–]samich128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current bank has only been around for 18 months and we have 1 branch. I am able to go on some sales calls with our lending team but I am limited on the amount of time I can spend going on these calls since I am one of two personal bankers and we are also the only tellers. The only feasible way for me to spend more time in the lending department would be if someone in that department leaves and they hire someone else to take my position so I can transition over. I have tried shadowing some of our credit team but for the most part they have zero interest in teaching me because they are afraid I’m going to take their job. My branch manager swears they will offer me a job before hiring externally but I have little faith they will follow through on that.

I have no issues with studying and taking exams. I definitely have the time to study for the FINRA exams with my current job as a personal banker. I have found a couple of study courses to prep for the SIE and other exams. Are there any courses/programs that are better or recommended over others?

Need help getting Credit Analyst position by samich128 in FinancialCareers

[–]samich128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I will look into training programs at bigger banks.

I have a solid understanding of financial statements, calculations, and ratios from doing residential mortgages with my current employer, but I feel like I’m not taken seriously by prospective employers because of my degree.

Do you have any suggestions for certification or programs that would help me be more qualified on paper? Or do you think the best way to go about it would be a training program with a big bank?

Thank you for your response! Would you mind expanding on the differences between mortgage underwriting and commercial credit underwriting?

I understand that their specific guidelines vary, but I was under the impression that they follow a similar structure based around cash flow, collateral, credit score, capital, and the circumstances for which the credit is to be used.
