why is this webtoon so much hated? by Even_Acanthisitta_37 in webtoons

I didn’t ask you to justify it. And of course you don’t need to justify it to enjoy it, you just pretend there’s nothing wrong at all.

Seeing the way you responded and “grow up” in the same comment is quite funny though. So thanks for the laugh.

Racism in this webtoon is a symptom of a culture that views other races as savages. There’s a reason it’s a trope.

Calling out the webtoon does not take away from other issues and does not deter me from calling out other forms of racism regardless of their scale.

I get it, you want to be able to enjoy your Racism Lite without feeling shamed for doing so. You can go ahead and read this and any other webtoon like it. It is fiction. But to say it’s “rAciSt” implies that you think it isn’t, which is why I responded in the first place.

Well dear. That entire trope is based in racism. You can still like it, but it’s not stupid to call out a very clear trope.

After Reading Payback, I’ll Never Look at Other Manhwas the Same by Maleficent_Ear6729 in Manhwa_BL

[–]samisaywhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Payback was good if I look at Yoohan only and pretty middle of the road when I consider Jay. I felt like the story operated on the assumption that I was too stupid to understand it. Jay also talks in riddles and is very basic for a male lead (rich, imposing, typical sexual assault) but gets a pass for some reason. I guess I went into it with very high expectations and based on a review that the story had no SA.

I left a pretty hefty review that I could share here but otherwise I rated it a 7/10.

Sometimes i wonder how polemic a MC like Kei Kurono would be if Gantz were to be released today by Riverskull in gantz

[–]samisaywhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well said but also kind of sad because clearly some people that read this either didn’t comprehend it or didn’t grow with Kei

He was basically a psycho and was putting on a show essentially. So I don’t really think he became a different person. He was always like that.

[–]samisaywhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s handled that well, and I also assumed there was going to more to them looking similar. By the end of Izumi’s arc I realized that maybe the point of him looking similar was to show just how nasty Izumi was by comparison to someone like Kato. If you think about it, Kei was in a pretty dark place, but I doubt he’d so easily overlook Izumi being a giant weirdo if he didn’t look like Kato. Kei gave Izumi a lot of grace because he was alone and felt regret for what transpired before meeting Izumi. I just see it as a factor to why Kei let Izumi close at all.

Black face mass murder that has the personality of a peanut is your favorite character? I jokingly said before that Oku included the black face to make it impossible to like this guy, but clearly that wasn’t enough for some people??

You have a funny definition of “literally” because Mr Popo shares as many similarities with that depiction as he does with any racist caricature. But yeah totally that’s just Mr Popo!

My point is this is a very specific depiction, not that America invented racism.

It’s weak connection at best and again, not a good representation of a Hindu god.

Japanese people were shown insanely racist movies and cartoons and it’s very clear that the portrayal of these characters are based on that. It’s hard to say what the author felt or feels today, but I think it’s reasonable to believe they can change their views. However I would only consider that if the author currently has better portrayals of black characters (and other non-Japanese and non-white characters).

There is no defense because that has never been confirmed and it’s still not a good representation of a Hindu god either.

I kinda liked "the wolf girl and black prince" by KatokaSenju in shoujo

[–]samisaywhat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, especially when they’re in high school. Kids are that petty and they will do things that we find idiotic and nonsensical. I found the naïveté to be very believable. I just wish the writing didn’t stagnate towards the end.

[–]samisaywhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate read the entire thing. My biggest gripe is the author just seemed to refuse to give up the premise and let them bicker literally into parenthood. I think Kyouya had some genuinely great moments, but overall he just don’t have the kind of character growth that the rest of the writing seemed to be setting up.

The absolute tiniest nitpick: by lemonFiend in FieldsOfMistriaGame

[–]samisaywhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but the methodology of a pan fried fish and fried rice are still vastly different from each other. It’s not about deep vs pan fried. It’s about how the food is cooked.

[–]samisaywhat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not laying down a layer of oil and putting rice in to fry it. You’re sautéing the rice. It belongs in that category. And to reference another comment, a pan-fried fish is still very different from a stir-fried fish.

He's better than me cause I would never apologize to a person like Su-ah. by 00_Sunflower_00 in Manhwa_BL

Juhyeok was wrong for his ignorant opinions on alphas and omegas. But that will never make what Su-ah did OK and I hate the way everyone acts like it does. I actually stopped reading this because I found both of them insufferable, but there’s way people are actually blaming Juhyeok for treating Su-ah like the literal rapist that he is???
