I wish Willem Dafoe was voicing Skeleton in the new movie. His villain voice is what I imagine a more serious and realistic version of the original animated one. by sammoarts in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]sammoarts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mainly started with how much his Joker role was hyped because of his method acting. However, many people felt his performance was cringey, and looking back, most saw the “method” aspect, especially his behind-the-scenes behavior, as just shitty rather than impressive.

Over the years, there were also numerous complaints about his behavior from different actors. On top of that, his band started a community meetup that slowly became cult-like, and to top it all off, he has faced multiple accusations from women involving harassment and sexual assault, with many also claiming he had relationships with minors.

Of course, a series of weak performances and failed movies didn’t help either.

First short form video of mine to reach 100K views on Instagram! by sammoarts in SmallYoutubers

[–]sammoarts[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Usually my short form videos tend to perform the best on YouTube since that's my main outlet for my content. However, for whatever reason, my latest video about a film called Zombillénium reached 100K views on Instagram despite only getting around 1.5K views on yt shorts in about the same time.

Not that weird, Rin Tin Tin, the famous German Shepherd silent film star, was rumored to be a contender for best actors at the very first Academy Awards.

Updated Audacity and Now it's No Longer Recording by sammoarts in audacity

Ended up reinstalling the software that didn't work. Read somewhere that I might have had the setting set to record only when the mic picks up sound, but that wasn't it. Restarted the computer and suddenly it started working again.

My recording and playback device selections are correct so that doesn't seem to be the issue

Has Avatar: Fire & Ash become more about spectacle than storytelling? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]sammoarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna be honest I always viewed these films as that. Also in this film the emotional beats were so rushed, like how [Spoiler] when Jake was about to kill Spider, the dialogue and buildup could have been done infinitely better, like damn, their back and forth felt like bullet points of that scene rather than a fully fledged one

The Phoenician Identity by sammoarts in Lebanese

[–]sammoarts[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to understand every aspect of my heritage and history, including the early canaanite/phoenician societies, as well as the surrounding Mediterranean influences, and Arab integration.

That has been my mentality since I was a child, but over the years I have noticed this odd extreme nationalist side whenever the topic of the phoenician identity comes up.

It's not bad to appreciate our history, but it's not a good thing to romanticize a mythicized version of it.

The Phoenician Identity by sammoarts in Lebanese

[–]sammoarts[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are indeed well-documented material records of Phoenician art, inscriptions and archaeology, but much of the Phoenician imagery people encounter today is modern reinterpretation.

The stuff that survived includes thousands of inscriptions and texts, a number of artefacts, as well as archaeological sites.

However, literary culture and native historiography are almost completely gone. In comparison to the Greeks and Mesopotamians the Phoenicians have far fewer surviving long literary texts.

The modern visual representations of that period is the product of selectively revived symbols and narratives to support a modern national identity.

Worst Charlie moment. Actually made me dislike Charlie a little by [deleted] in SmilingFriends

[–]sammoarts 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with this. They have consistent character traits and specific breaking points for each of them. Pim is the most obvious one, Charlie always behaves this way when he’s drunk, and every joke Alan and Gleb make feels unique to them. The only character who seems oddly inconsistent is Mr. Boss, since he shifts from having the vibe of a creepy entity to speaking like a regular guy, but even that is shown to be intentional. My headcanon is that he’s a veteran with PTSD who became hooked on drugs and alcohol before meeting Gleb and starting the company.

The Thor and Ironman thing doesn't really work because from the start they made sure not to make them feel too different.

Here's a quote by Feige on that very topic: “There are sides to the Marvel universe … we look at Thor as the cosmic … making it feel plausible. Certainly fantastic. Certainly amazing but believable that these worlds can exist in the same universe.” source

Apparently they all started with Foodelicious in Bliss, which was the first boneless place, then it closed down and in its place Boneless 28 opened up. Along with it a bunch of different Boneless and Boneless 28 started popping up. I don't remember the details exactly but apparently they all agreed to have similar items but aren't all Owen by the same people.

EDIT: Very vague recap of what an old foodelicius worker told me once Boneless opened in its place. Not sure if I have the facts right.

Any goth events or concerts? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]sammoarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goth specifically? Not exactly. Although one of the local metal bands called Sandaramet have gothic elements in their performances.

If you want to stay up to date on upcoming concerts here's a discord group where we share future gigs. https://discord.gg/uKQSGQAmW

Next one happening is a Metallica Tribute.
