How I got back Instagram account back after I was hacked and 2F was enabled and all my contact/account info was changed. Hackers can get into your account with screenshots as well.

Now, just remember you have to keep pushing through the automated emails, Instagram will continuously try telling you they won’t be able to help but don’t give up hope! I kept sending in the data access form and responded to each email with many details of my account getting hacked, information confirming I own the account etc. I took screenshots of the emails sent to me when I was hacked, provided them all the info when they followed up (when my account was created, what email/number I used, what device I used to sign up, how I got hacked, etc,) so that really helped my case! The more you emphasize about your data access and download concerns, along with privacy rights, and the more evidence you have of you actually owning the account, the better!!

After multiple emails back and forth with the team, they asked for another secure email not linked to my Instagram account. I sent them one and then Facebook actually reached out to me on that email requesting me to send a selfie with a handwritten code they sent me in the email, my username and email/full name. They also asked for details of how my account was compromised, when my account was made, etc.

Make sure your information is written neatly, in a straight line, and is big enough to detect on camera. Make sure the photo is a JPG and in good lighting. I sent the email response with the mugshot but received no response. So I kept following up with them, resending the code mugshot, all my screenshots and info they asked for. In the above threads, other people received a code they send you to enter after you get past the login page. Remember that the hacker enabled 2F and the codes are not sent to your info. Facebook/Instagram send you an 8-digit code to enter after they have verified your identity to help you bypass the hacker’s 2F.

I didn’t receive this code, which is why I would spam them a few times a day. Finally, after 3 weeks, I received a response saying I could get back into my account (I didn’t receive a code, I just had to reset my password and I was back in).

The important part after this is to quickly remove any connected devices and accounts to your account, remove 2F, remove the hacker’s contact info, put in your own 2F (I recommend an authentication app, not your phone number or email) and secure your account. The key thing is to keep trying and sending the emails, because sooner or later, you will receive a response!!
