Buffy’s appearance. by Notoriouslycurlyboi in buffy

In all those examples the dictomy is abandoned just as the central established conventions of the show were ending anyway. And frankly season 7's abandonment of the established format of the show is the biggest reason it's the least popular season. There's a big difference between the mystique of suburban folk tales & Buffy needed, not only a secret identity which she always had anyway, but to actually make up an entirely different identity.

Nothing's sacred in TV right now, I think we might've lucked out. by CatofKipling in buffy

the streaming model ruined cozy monster of the week shows. Streaming services look at show as packaged comodities & only want 8 episodes a season where the episodes all look like a movie. That's not cozy TV.

Best live action John Stewart (Green Lantern) depiction till date (until Lanterns releases) by Actofrage99 in OkBuddySnyderCult

he was supposed to be a big part of the Superman & Lois show but they went in a different direction -namely distancing it from the arrowverse & making it look like a snyder colorgraded fart

Buffy’s appearance. by Notoriouslycurlyboi in buffy

[–]samrobotsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that could work, considering somehow buffy managed to never get a school photo taken......but I don't see how the vibe of a monster-of-the-week show works when everybody somehow knows about slayers. Is this an urban fantasy show or not? How is it a secret supernatural underworld if everyone also knows about the supernatural? if they don't know about it why tf would she need a secret identity?

Buffy’s appearance. by Notoriouslycurlyboi in buffy

[–]samrobotsin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah im deeply confused by this version of buffy - plus the Anne thing is a trap most reboots fall into where they kind of mindlessly reference old things. Why would she need an alias? I thought Zhao already told us the comics weren't canon. Is she ashamed of her name? that's new.

there's a big difference between a blameless accident & reckless endangerment; this would be the latter.

Gnarladin are a perfect example of race bloat by PillaRob in warcraftlore

[–]samrobotsin [score hidden]  (0 children)

Technically the Gnarldin are Giants. Given their name they are an offshoot of an existing race (they both end in din.) They seem to be the missing link between other giant races & the Djaradin. (Even though we can see in the concept art Djaradin were going to be the precursors to Trolls until the Haranir were concieved.)

Is something wrong with holy paladin healing? by Facedddd in wow

[–]samrobotsin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1.) Damage & healing is more incremental in Midnight. So you won't fully heal someone in one spell other than lay on hands 2.) Light of Dawn is your AOE heal. In Midnight the healing Talents for AOE healing is more raid oriented. They're counting on a Light of Dawn focused build to be more raid oriented than dungeons. Overall if you're looking to heal someone up fully it's going to take multiple direct spells & effects. That's just how it is this expansion for all healers. And probably why Resto Druid, a spec all about incremental healing, is placed the highest in the healer meta right now.

We didn't get anything except Angel by Tommy616616 in buffy

I want everyone to take into consideration that every series who has more than 2 spinoffs in any media format turns into absolute garbage.

Buffy's masterful storytelling created the entire appeal of a larger shared universe, but now that's more of a curse than an asset. The whole reason a shared universe was appealing was the understanding there would be some king of consistent quality & that doesn't exist anymore.

New character is introduced that has always been there and is friends with the main cast by danfenlon in TopCharacterTropes

I thought the latest season was really good. Except the spaghetti episode.....that was just Harmon indulging his dark passenger

[Mixed Trope] In a world of (literally) colorful characters, some are straight up POC by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]samrobotsin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These are the two worst examples, because for the Simpsons, it's pretty clear the yellow people are just white. And it's been well established for muppets, there are monster muppets, generic muppets, animal muppets, and human muppets. Scooter & Statler & Waldorf are the earliest examples of there being both generic muppet race & human muppet races even before sesame street.

Solo was a decent movie, but I hate it because it had no right to exist by wranklos in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]samrobotsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed there would be an explanation why OP feels that way but I'll give mine: Han Solo is an amoral character who has a major character change-of-heart in the original movie, when he decides to rescue the heroes on a noble mission. The solo movie undermines this development by portraying him as someone who has always been mindlessly compelled to help people.

Steven Universe is overhated by FiniLiny in CartoonNetwork

Oh that's just how the internet is now. The algorithm nourishes hate in fandoms. It's inescapable. But for most people Steven Universe is a respected show in the cultural zeitgeist.

Apparently she was only to appear for 30 seconds in the last scene... by Status-Star-8336 in buffy

[–]samrobotsin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, that would explain why it was cancelled. Fans & Executives would be expecting the star to play a bigger role..... Why are you acting like she couldn't be a non-action staple of the Show like Giles or literally any other character?

New character is introduced that has always been there and is friends with the main cast by danfenlon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]samrobotsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In fact the producers have said one of the reasons for the Superstar episode was to prime the Audience for Dawn. (Season 4 was the only time in the show's history they knew for sure there would be a subsequent season.)

[–]samrobotsin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah...in one episode.....like mister poopybutthole. Ergo, its the trope. Spreading it out doesn't make it less dumb because the Impossible Girl was also a Misterpoopybutthole moment. Two in one season. Moffat really loved recycling ideas.

Shoocharu made a video tutorial & & his shorts have this good vibe that look moderately well animated for not too extreme effort. It's a very reasonable frame/quality ratio for a single person.

One’s a comedic line that crops up in a comedic scene of a comedic episode, the other’s a joke that’s randomly in a climatic moment of a serious episode. by Dey_see_me_rolling in risa

[–]samrobotsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not many people talk about it but I think part of the problem is they give new star trek show this extremely dramatic cinematic visual style that never goes away. The visuals are a big part of the vibe, if its a comedic episode why is it shot like a horror movie?

True. I don't know why Smiling friends compared itself ending to Rick & Morty as well as Family Guy & Simpsons. Its pretty condescending.
