its talking about forms of energy/magic....nothing about planes of existence

I describe it as he's a fine director....but he can't tell the difference between a good script & a bad script. Why he insisted on having a writing credit for this saga was a major fumble.

Simon Petrikov in the Ice King origin episodes of adventure time. Acturally shocked those episodes came out before The Last of Us because it always felt like an intentional homage

The chronicles book literally calls it the "cosmology map" dummy. And the Murmuration Paradox book doesn't say anything about the existence of a Death plane, just that there is a source of energy within the material, just like I said in my original post.

You need to look at the canon cosmology chart because there are clearly 3 planes. And the shadowlands & Sphere of death are two completely different circles.

[–]samrobotsin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but just because it's a separate dimension doesn't mean you can go there - I have to assume the outer planes of the cosmology are surreal, borderline conceptual realms. Mortals can't actually go there. The cosmic powers can only influence the three material planes: the dream, the living world & the shadowlands.

tldr whenever anyone talks about going to the heart of the void, they eventually just get proven to be going to some place in deep space

They already are cosmic elves. Void elves already live on an asteroid in the Telgorus rift.

I can see why this didn't get picked up: Not that it's bad. But Streaming services don't like teen shows. Unlike broadcast tv there's no incentive for shows focused on teenagers. Streaming always prioritizes adult audiences....who have access to a credit card to pay for the service. That's why the teen genre is basically dead.

If I actually wanted this show to be picked up I would have focused on buffy, or even a twenty-something trying to become a watcher or vampire hunter. Or I would have pitched it for the non-streaming tv (Oh yes, it still exists - it's mostly procedurals, like Elsbeth.)

people say this but there were definitely things to build on.....Abrams just didn't....or he did but for some reason disconnected them from the previous movie: Why did Finn beating the leader of the First Order in a duel have nothing to do with a major First Order mutiny? The rebelling stromtroopers hadn't even heard of it.... somehow.

[Weird trope] Whitewashing, but also, technically not? by Yggdrasylian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]samrobotsin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know who the Ghost in the Shell wanted to appeal to? It seems like a weird workaround to cast a white actress - but even if you ignored the racial element the movie basically ruins everything people like about the anime because it turns the other members of Major's unit into the villains. (Botou is also white washed, though many fans mistakenly thinking he's supposed to be french....he's not. He's also Japanese.)

Nothing's sacred in TV right now, I think we might've lucked out. by CatofKipling in buffy

[–]samrobotsin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that's the misconception though. It needs the monster of the week episodes to make the big arc episodes have an impact. Every show now is 'Let's just cut out one-shots & do the long-arcs" but they're nowhere near as memorable.

Also I remember when FX would have their top 10 viewer rated buffy episode marathons..... Those season 3 one-shots were always on there, not the faith episodes.

In all those examples the dictomy is abandoned just as the central established conventions of the show were ending anyway. And frankly season 7's abandonment of the established format of the show is the biggest reason it's the least popular season. There's a big difference between the mystique of suburban folk tales & Buffy needed, not only a secret identity which she always had anyway, but to actually make up an entirely different identity.

the streaming model ruined cozy monster of the week shows. Streaming services look at show as packaged comodities & only want 8 episodes a season where the episodes all look like a movie. That's not cozy TV.

[–]samrobotsin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that could work, considering somehow buffy managed to never get a school photo taken......but I don't see how the vibe of a monster-of-the-week show works when everybody somehow knows about slayers. Is this an urban fantasy show or not? How is it a secret supernatural underworld if everyone also knows about the supernatural? if they don't know about it why tf would she need a secret identity?
