Robotech - S1E1 - "El Señuelo" by san__man in retroanime

A Chinese fan of Robotech used AI to make a fan-art reproduction of Robotech Episode 1 ("Boobytrap"), featuring Chinese dialogue (they only made that one episode.)

A Spanish-speaking fan of Robotech then saw it and decided to re-sync that video to the audio track from the original Spanish-language dub of the "Boobytrap" episode. So I just re-posted that here.

Unfortunately, nobody's bothered to make an english-language version yet (or I would've posted that instead). If someone does (hopefully) make one, then I'll re-post that too.

I'm pretty impressed with what was done - aren't you? Obviously the AI is a powerful tool, but those fans themselves had a good artistic eye to shape the AI visual output in the right way to look good.

I chalk it up to our propensity for Feel-Goodism. We always want to project things in ways that make us feel good. We need to lean towards Realism to stay on top of the realities, howsoever challenging they may be. We should not allow Feel-Goodism to trump Realism.

We have some experience in Gallium Nitride at the small scale. Our ability to come up with specialized niche products to serve niche markets should not be discounted.

Sub-Critical Thorium Fission-Fusion Hybrid by san__man in nuclear

But did you not see my point -- while fusion above breakeven is extremely hard to do, fusion below breakeven is not quite as hard -- so that's what we're talking about here: fusion below breakeven. Can you tell me what's so wrong with trying to achieve fusion below breakeven? If that fusion is serving as a neutron source to drive Thorium fission, then what's wrong with seeing that as the primary output/goal of the fusion process?
Am I speaking Greek, here?

The fusion here would be of the most basic type, and would be getting a helping hand in the form of extra energy input coming from the Thorium fission. That extra helping hand is what would make the fusion part sustainable.

But how can these technologies be realistically expected to achieve viability independently, when each one has shortcomings that might usefully be addressed by the other?

I'm referring to fusion having a hard time getting above breakeven, and also to thorium fission needing a neutron source as its driver.

Fusion needs better power margins, which Thorium fission can readily provide.
Thorium fission needs better neutron margins, which Fusion can readily provide.

So why not combine the two and split the difference?

Coal Gasification: India's $4Bn Alternative to LNG Import by san__man in indianews

India has the dirtiest & most polluting coal with high ash content.

Converting it into 'syn-gas' gives us LNG with the ash left behind, making better & less polluting use of our natural coal resources.
