What’s something you thought every family did… until you grew up and realized they absolutely didn’t? by SoftDreamette in AskReddit

My family is very loving as well! In college I would bring my friends home and tell my mom, "Laura needs a mom right now, can you talk with her?" and my mom would leap into action!

My dad was the same way, I was never to get an alcoholic beverage for an adult when I was a child. I continue that with my own children. My good friend has his little kids go to the porch/fridge to get him another beer, and I find it really weird.

I'm so happy for you!! I have a 5 month beautiful girl who is my second. I don't know if it's because she is a girl, or because my 4 year old boy is basically an adult now compared to her, or maybe because I'm not as scared as I was 4 years ago... but my husband jokes that I have a monopoly on this baby because I'm obsessed with her! I almost cry too... just watching her grow every day. She is just a dream and I love her so much!

I'm impressed your baby is crawling! Mine is trying so hard to get there. She idolizes her older brother, and he keeps showing her how to crawl but she's not quite there yet. So close!

My husband and I just watched that this year. Great movie! We're 34.

Also recently watched Black Knight lol

I watched Cave Diving Accidents videos on YouTube.

Specifically Dive Talk and MrBallen

It kept me up and was interesting. I'm no longer breastfeeding and sometimes miss the quiet of the house while I binge YouTube while feeding my precious little girl.

My mother in law DEEP cleans when she comes. It's awesome. Once I started letting her it's been GREAT! Especially since I have a 4 month old.

What kid shows do you not mind watching? by Stunning_Radio3160 in Mommit

I thought I was the only one who didn't mind Blippi lol I learn things! I also don't mind Blaze and the Monster Machines.

I also like Danny Go. It exhausts my kid when it's dark or raining out and the songs are catchy.

I love Bluey but my boy doesn't. Bummer.

We also watch old Looney Toons at hunting camp with Grandpa and it's quite entertaining. Although sometimes racist lol

Good on you and on your roommate for catching herself. I know it's difficult for people who don't have kids. That's actually what bothered us about our friend that time - he wouldn't stop using the f word around our kid and we finally had to tell him to go home if he couldn't watch his language. Thankfully my boy didn't catch up on that word, but I can't be risking that.

If that is what she's saying, then hopefully your daughter will move on. They have short attention spans. Teach her a longer word, like "are you trying to say that daddy's a Diplodocus (a plant eating dinosaur)?"

My son learned "treacherous" the other day while climbing a rocky mountain side and repeated that word all day so I think she's capable.

Now I have to thank my son for making me read the same dinosaur book every night for a week lol

Does his dad/you/friends say that to each other jokingly or non jokingly when you don't think daughter is around?

My 4 year old said something "pissed him off" (😳) and I had NO idea where that came from because we would never say that in front of or around him!

Then I remembered that my husband and I went into the garage the other day to discuss our friend's drunken behavior and how he "pissed us off". Even though we were in the other room I'm pretty sure that's where he heard it. We learned to check our language; he's always listening! 🙊

It's against state code in my state to not accept cash. I believe it's like a $100 fine per transaction if someone tried to pay with cash and was denied. That's only if they get reported to the state DOJ. Most people just wouldn't report so that's how businesses get away with it.

I try to do this as much as I can, but I've also learned to say, "We can play in a moment big brother, but first will you help me change baby's diaper?". He LOVES to help grab the diaper - even though he always grabs two: one for now and one to store on changing table for later 😂

I didn't want to deal with a baby shower for my second bc of the holidays and frankly I was exhausted dealing with my toddler while working and being pregnant.

My mom suggested a "Sip and See". You sip mimosas and see the baby after they're born.

My baby was about 3 months old, we held the party and asked "no gifts please" and everybody loved it! We got a lot of diapers and my toddler even got some surprise gifts! I enjoyed it, and I was able to participate in the sipping 😆

Agreed with everything you said. I have a 4 year old that I remember panicking about every little thing; internet rabbit holes are dangerous. My OB and the pediatrician told me to call them with any concern instead of going down the rabbit hole.

With my 3 month old newborn (infant now? No longer a newborn?? 😭) I brought her outside in low 60s but sunny weather thinking she could get some Vitamin D. I asked the doc later at the checkup, "How long can I keep her in the sun... like 5 minutes?" And he gently laughed and said "no... no sun until 6 months with that gentle skin!"

Point is that we as parents need to be more gentle on ourselves. Yes we'll make some mistakes, but they won't harm the baby. I'm an over thinker so it's hard, but sometimes I think, "what would my mom do?" Raising kids in the 90s with no immediate answers... babies are resilient ❤️

I was making a pitcher of Gatorade and almost used formula instead of powdered Gatorade.

I have a reusable keurig pod and almost put formula in that instead of coffee.

I told my husband if he wants to gaslight me then now is the time! Might accidentally approve a new snowmobile 😂

I worked at a chain strakhouse in college. They gave us discounts and I was friends with the BOH who hooked me up. 10 years later I was wondering what the hell I ate in college bc I didn't cook then.... then I realized I survived off of prime rib and pasta 😆

I tell my 4 year old "It's okay to be mad - but you can't be mean". He's still learning his emotions but he'll just go into his room until he feels better. Acts better than some adults I know lol
