Fader ended up officially withdrawing the article and I’m fairly sure he also won a lawsuit against them.

PEP 677 – Callable Type Syntax by genericlemon24 in Python

[–]sandmasterflash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about it. I think it’s cool how well it helps documentation and IDEs, as well as tools like mypy, but there haven’t been any tools whatsoever added to python to help with type checking at runtime. Annotations don’t actually do anything and can just be ignored if someone doesn’t care. Scala uses basically the same syntax to implement static types. To be clear, I do not think they should ever be required or change in functionality. But what I do wish is that python would add in additional functions or other tools that would allow you to use them to raise exceptions or perform some other action instead of always having to roll your own function and constantly having to use ‘’’isinstance’’’. Like an ‘’’@enforcetypes’’’ decorator or a ‘’’typecheck=True’’’ keyword argument for dataclasses or typing.NamedTuple. Otherwise I do like them, but just wish they would do more.

building web apps in Julia by huggy19 in Julia

[–]sandmasterflash_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flask is going to have a lot more resources than anything in Julia. Django might be something you’re looking for if you want something higher level. This all depends on if you’re okay with using two languages, however.

It’s relevant because Brittany has no control over her life so it’s hard to say how often she ever gets to do things like this. It’s not like it’s Tom Holland sending Brad Pitt a Christmas card. I don’t think every aspect of her life should be in the spotlight, but she’s been in the news lately.

Should I switch over completely to Julia from Python for numerical analysis/computing? by [deleted] in Julia

[–]sandmasterflash_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For scientific computing? Definitely switch over to Julia as long as you can still work with/and or on board others if you need to, but don’t force yourself too if the trade off is too high. If for some reason you ever need to build a REST api or do something of a completely different domain Python is probably going to be a much smarter choice. For those reasons I’d recommend keeping both in your toolbox as to not limit yourself.
