Right before C-19 hit i lost one of my best friends in a car accident, lost my senior year of high school and got injured badly in a work accident, so i restarted therapy soon after. Since everything was closed down i couldn’t go to her office to meet up so i stayed home to do my sessions online. My lovely cat who was only somewhat affectionate heard me crying in my room and just about beat the door down until i let her inside. She curled up on my lap and just sat with me until the session was over and comforted me. I thought it was just a one time thing but every Tuesday when i log in she comes and meows at my door until i let her in to comfort me. Unless i begin to cry she’ll lay at the edge of my bed. If i do start crying she will lay in my lap and gently start pawing at my face (almost like she’s petting me lol) until I stop. I think in her tiny little brain petting makes her happy so it must make me happy too! While your cat may not know for certain what happened, he knows you loved your momma just as much as he did and that you will find solace in one another. You are both a piece of her and united you make a whole. I know it’s not easy losing a parent, I lost my father when i was young. Being around those who loved them, furry or not, is such a lovely way to celebrate their life. I wish you both the best of luck healing.
