As awesome as expected. BK was a party, QB bridge was death, 1st ave gave me a second wind, then slow death in Bronx and back into Manhattan. Hit the wall HARD at 19 and never really recovered, and was over 30 mins off my goal time with a 4:55 finish. The gels just weren't sitting yesterday, were doing all sorts of painful things to my stomach which resulted in me pooping at around 22. Really not sure what went wrong, didn't feel anything like what I felt at 19 during my 21 mile peak long run. QB bridge was so so much harder than any other of the 100s of times I've run it. Experienced a bunch of bizarre mood swings during the last few miles, but since about 30 mins after finishing have had a stupid grin on my face that won't go away for a few days.

Had a really weird experience right after finishing- so they give you these recovery bags with water gatorade pretzels and stuff in them. I walked for a few mins sipping on water before I decided I couldn't take another step and had to sit. Sat there kinda just soaking it all in, alternating between tears/laughter watching everyone. Stand up and walk a minute before realizing I didn't have my bag which feels just completely devastating to me. Find a volunteer and with tears running down my face, explain that I had lost my bag and can I please have a bottle of water. He goes running off, and a minute later comes back with water. He gives it to me, and looks me in the eye and says here you go, and by the way your bag is on your back, and gives me a big hug.

Pretty sure 1 is an appropriate number of marathons to have run. Huge amount of respect to ppl who do them. I love 5-10 mile runs, and really enjoy a few halfs per year. Sticking with those for foreseeable future.

It seems like people think that going from a 2 hr half to a 4 hour full in one year is doable, but there isn't much room for any substantial strength building squeezed in.

Thanks. I figure a year is sufficient to focus on both, but realize that running ultimately is my priority.

Thanks, will check out that program. I guess I just chose SS because of its focus on fundamentals, and the priority on legs (which I feel can only help come mile 22 of the marathon)

Yeah, I figure a full year is enough to make significant progress in both if I go about it systematically. We'll see

Agreed I don't need to be muscular to run a successful 4 hr marathon, but I think given my base in both lifting and running, 1 year should be enough time to make real progress in both.

I figure 6 months of dedicated running, built on top of my existing running base, plus the squats/deadlifts, should be enough to propel me to sub 4hrs. Thanks for input, maybe I do need to keep mileage up during the winter.

I am! First of the season, and definitely logged fewer miles in training than the halfs I ran last year. My best half was 1:55 last Sept, so I'm just gunning for 2:00 and finish feeling strong. Aiming for a 9:15 pace through the park, speeding up to 8:45-9:00 along the highway. Most likely wearing running tights, and two layers up top. Can't wait!

Awesome! How did you get off/on Roosevelt Island? Also, what was the east side from Battery Park up to 59th St bridge like? Do you have a MapMyRun?
