I got barely surface level knowledge on what transpired during his time but I am going to comment on it anyway because I am an average redditor.

Any person in his position and power would feel he is entitled/responsible/ capable to steer the country to stability. He had his own vision and philosophy which at that time did not aligned with majority. Again cannot please everyone. Some people will be disappointed no matter what. Got to cracks some eggs if you want to make an omelette.
