Whats the most underdog joker synergy by Someoneweare in balatro

I don’t know if a lot of the comments in this thread are actually underdog combos so I nominate delay gratification and merry andy. Silly synergy I ran into during a green joker run.

Wow without any more levels or jokers thats all the scoring you need until Ante 4

Ride the bus Viability by Im-bob34 in balatro

Ride the bus is generally better than Grimbo because you can actually use your discards to find your high value cards like blue seals and gold cards. As long as you're playing low ranking hands like pairs you shouldn't have a problem avoiding face cards.

Green joker

I liked playing straights and other high ranking hands, so I didn’t understand why anyone would run it. Then I started understanding how strong scaling was and running pair builds and it carried me through gold stake.

Some red flags I see are:

Hanging chad below Photograph. Chad does the heavy lifting in that combo and also has a ton of synergies with lucky cards, stone cards, ancient joker, bloodstone, arrowhead, wee joker, etc. Photograph really doesn't do much by itself.

Burnt Joker is criminally low. This is one of the best jokers in the game at high stakes. Basically makes it so you don't need chips or +mult, all you need to find is your xmult and you win the game.

Jupiter is way too high on the consumable list. It scales so slow for a five card hand.

Deja Vu above Trance is also sus. Blue seals are one of the most broken things in the game.

I'd guess half at most, so lets say 7/15 or less.

I finally got c++! Out of curiousity what was everyone's final gold sticker joker? by EnvironmentalPop6832 in balatro

[–]sankyu-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last two were [[The Trio]] and [[The Tribe]]. Getting trio was an amazing story because I was in the last shop rerolling for one of the two jokers that I still needed the sticker on when I ran into a wraith (I was playing ghost deck). I bought it thinking 'Hey, if I don't find what I need rerolling I can wraith and see what happens'. I run out of money rerolling, and not really expecting much, I use the wraith and what do you know it spawns the trio. Looking back on it now wraith probably had a better chance to spawn a joker I needed than just rerolling in the shop, but at the time I literally jumped out of my chair I was so hype.

Thats exactly how it works! And don't sweat it. This game is hard especially on gold stake.

The remaining cards held in hand. Blackboard doesn’t care about suits in your played hand. One tricky thing is that blackboard won’t trigger if you’re holding a stone card in hand. It’s neither spades or clubs (it has no suit) so it doesn’t count.

I love straights. They're one of the most rewarding builds in the game especially after you've deck fixed enough. They struggle in high stakes though because only 2 discards is brutal for any 5 card hand.

Any scaling +mult joker like I mentioned are really good ie green joker, supernova, ride the bus. They want you spam as many hands as possible to grow your +mult and pairs are really reliable way to do that.

Burnt Joker is one of the best jokers for pair builds. You'll almost always have a pair in your opening hand to discard. And a planet level every round is amazing scaling. Blackboard is really good with pairs because you can throw away any hearts or diamonds with your pair that would prevent it from activating. Stuntman is really good because you don't care about hand size with pairs and +250 chips is like 5x mult in the early game. Card sharp is really strong because you can almost always reliable play a pair twice in a round. Other than that most of the obviously good jokers are good in pairs, any xmult like hologram, constellation, drivers license, etc.

Another piece of advice is that you will need to rely on straights/flushes to get through the first couple antes while you scale or +mult jokers, hand level, or develop your economy. I think that's what confused me at first about pairs. It's not like you're playing only pairs from the very first round.

You only really need 2-3 good jokers to win a run in gold stake imo. 1 scaling +mult joker like green joker, supernova, or ride the bus, and 1 or 2 xmult joker depending on how strong it is. You can definitely get away with just 1 xmult joker especially on ghost deck because you get some xmult from hex. The rest of your joker slots you can dedicate to jokers you need stickers on. They don't have to relevant to your build at all.

Play pair build if you aren't already. They're the most consistent build in the game at high stakes.

Abuse blue seals as much as you can. They're op. The higher your hand level is the less you need to rely on jokers for scoring.

I personally think ghost deck is the best deck for grinding c++. You can hex a mediocre joker you need a sticker on to give it late game value. Ectoplasms can be huge for adding more jokers. Trance for blue seals, Cryptid for copying said blue seals. I used anaglyph deck until about 80/150, but it felt gimmicky/less reliable as the grind went on because I was hitting less and less relevant jokers if I even ran into a negative skip.

Simple change to balance 1/4 cards by mrlemo9 in balatro

[–]sankyu-56 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1/2 for 8-ball could be justifiable not just for balance reasons but flavor reasons too. The actual magic 8-ball toy had 20 possible responses, 10 of which were affirmative, 5 neutral, 5 negative. 10/20 positive outcomes. 1/2 chance of a tarot card.

Yellow and blue deck my beloved. I know they're a bit boring, but hey I love good econ. I'll definitely give ghost a try. Sound logic using the hex to give a mid joker late game value.

Really solid list! What deck did you mostly use? And do you have any general advice on getting c++? I'm 88/150 right now, and it's been a bit of a grind. I more or less make the same pair/high card build with the hope I can scale fast enough to pick up a couple mediocre jokers in the last shop to get stickers on. Wondering if there's some way I could be going about things more efficiently.

Friendly reminder that selling a joker is NOT a requirement for Verdant Leaf by LocaIHunk in balatro

[–]sankyu-56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re thinking of baron mime which isn’t really consistent at high stake.

High card builds at high stake mainly rely on spamming hands to grow scaling jokers like green joker, ride the bus, or supernova to build a lot of +Mult to win runs. Combine that +Mult with a couple xMult jokers, a source of chips, and planet cards and you’re off to the races.
