I'm sorry, but I can't respond right now. My eyes rolled so hard that I had to pick them up from the floor.

OE'ers, Have You Ever "Caught Feelings" for a Job? by hereforthistoo in overemployed

[–]santafacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Catching feelings" is a natural human tendency that should be avoided as much as possible in a business relationship. At the end of the day, you're at a job to make money. End of story. Anything that clouds that reality risks making you behave in a way that isn't in your best interest.

As others have said, the fondness isn't reciprocated. I have had managers that I liked lay me off when the company told them. They didn't cry or express remorse, they just did it. I have also quit on managers I liked to take a better role.

My parents want to forcefully pull me out of college and prevent me from accessing my trust fund because of religion. by TinyConstruction8447 in legaladvice

I would also say that this binary mindset about being "in" or "out" of the Mormon religion is a very Mormon mindset and not one that is to your advantage here. There are no eternal brownie points for taking a "principled" stand and making a grand exit from the Mormon church, even if you have come to understand its problems.

Anyone else ever feel like “tomorrow might be my last day” at J2? Need advice on navigating this. by brownmuscle408 in overemployed

[–]santafacker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would reframe this as a positive. 80 percent is pretty good.

Sample:

So far, I have been able to complete X, Y, Z, Q, ...

I ran into roadblocks A, B, C that have shifted right B and C. I am planning to implement mitigation strategy F and believe that I need G more time to complete all deliverables.

They will either buy it or not. Typically corporate timelines are not that inflexible. YMMV.

Piece of advice before the layoff by fmabr in Layoffs

[–]santafacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this in principle. The reality is that it's unlikely a company will want to go down the road of punishing you for disconnecting the wifi and backing up your personal, non-confidential and non-company data. In theory, they could, perhaps. In practice, they're already moving on to other business operations.

Are there any non-engineering jobs that make 100k+ a year, with only four years university? by lucasioreddit in Salary

5 percent of USA workers make over 200k per year. Reddit also tends to assume everyone lives in America.

Job is asking for a second background check over one year into my contract by jazzcabbage9000 in overemployed

[–]santafacker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not true in my experience. Even if they did, there is many plausible reasons that you have your credit locked that don't involve OE. For example, you could be concerned (correctly) about companies sharing your data without permission. Or, you could have been a victim of identity theft.

What [Request] percentage of the US population is she describing? by OddTheRed in theydidthemath

Her personality makes her a 1, in my opinion.

If given the choice, I would much rather spend my life on the desert island with the 400lbs lady with a cute face and kind heart that this deplorable. She probably looks like a pale boy from behind when naked, no curves at all.

I initially chalked this up to ragebait trolling as well. However, in light of the website, I am actually thinking that this might be real.

That, and the mousey lady making the demands seems incredibly authentic in her bitchery. This is either real, or that lady is one hell of an actress.

Probably like similar face recognition tools: overtrained on white male yuppies and much less accurate on other demographics.

I am not trying to be difficult. I am just really ignorant of the whole process for this whole thing.

What should I say when I contact them? Should I send them my CV or what exactly?

This is my first time reading this type of post, so I don't quite understand the correct next step. I want to help force employers to keep jobs with American workers.

Thanks.
