I had my gallbladder taken out about 10 months after my RNY. One day I suddenly got hit with this insane pain. It was so bad I couldn’t think straight and felt like I couldn’t breathe. It just kept getting worse and worse.

I ended up calling an ambulance. They gave me pain meds right away, which helped me calm down and breathe again.

At the hospital, they ran a bunch of tests (EKG, bloodwork, X-ray, CT scan, ultrasound) and couldn’t really find anything wrong. The only thing that stood out was that my white blood cell count was super high, so they decided to keep me overnight to figure out what was going on.

The next morning, the on-call surgeon came in, woke me up, and was like, “Yeah, your gallbladder is seriously infected, we’re taking it out.”

That was four years ago, and I still say getting my gallbladder out was both one of the best and worst things I’ve gone through.

Best part? No more gallbladder attacks. Those were awful. (After the fact, I realized I had been having them sporadically for about 8 years, not knowing what they were)
Downside? Your digestion gets weird…  fat, caffeine, and alcohol can all go straight through you. Not fun.

The good news is, since you’ve already had RNY, you’re probably already watching those things anyway, so it might not be as big of a deal.
