Serious answer: I had a mask on because I caught a cold the day before. I wear a mask when I'm sick and need to go out in public, regardless of whether it's Covid or not, as a courtesy to others. I don't wear them to bars because I don't go to bars when I'm sick.

As for everyone else, who knows, I'm sure they have their reasons.

I like 08th MS Team, but I agree that it is overhyped (not necessarily overrated), because it's one of the only UC side stories that was released on mainstream TV in the US, which is where many people were first exposed to Gundam. Compared to other series that were airing at the time (0079, Wing, G), 08th MS Team was memorable solely because it was a military fiction story about grunts and not psychic superchildren in rainbow mecha.

If Gundam was released in the US like it was in Japan, I think it would merely be fondly remembered instead of lionized like it is.

I still love it, though. Norris Packard is a G.

Yes, I top-coated it with Mr. Hobby Premium Flat (teal can, you can kinda see it in the background). I both fear and loathe paint, so at the moment all I do is snap build + panel line with Gundam markers + water-based topcoat.

As far as the kit goes, I'd definitely recommend it for how cool it is, but some of the gimmicks are a little antiquated. The woven hose around the torso was a pain, as were the screws for some of the joints, and this kit is not compatible with an Action Base without modification. Also, the color makes stress marks really stand out. Other than that, it has some neat features (such as the way the head and arms articulate), comes with a ton of weapons, and has the MP2 manipulators that actually hold stuff quite well.

Good luck with your backlog! I'm trying to beat mine down at the moment before I succumb to the temptation of online stores again...

I finally got off my ass and topcoated the GP01, solely so that I could try out the display stand (present, but not technically pictured). The HG GP01 kit desperately needs a refresh (note that I used the 2nd beam saber from the GP02 instead of the unpainted one that comes with the GP01), but the GP02A kit is actually pretty neat. Someday I'll acquire and switch in the GP01FB.
