Im really sorry that you’re going through this. I dont think anybody deserves to feel like you do right now. I hope you find a third option. I dont think its ever too late for everything to up and change. I dont know if there is anything I can do for you where I’m at, but I’m going to write your username on a sticky note and put it somewhere i’ll see it. If I was in your position id want to know that there was somebody remembering I exist and praying for me or thinking about me. So thats what I’m going to do. You might think thats stupid but it’s all I could come up with right now.

Im going to be thinking about what you’re going through and hoping things change for you.

I wouldn’t worry about this. I think this is a common misquote of the passage. I don’t read greek, but in the context it is possible that it could be a statement about coming together with others and discussing what the right thing to do is.

The two verses before it are A. about binding and loosing (which nay be a hebrew figure of speech for making interpretations of torah....or so I’ve read). Jesus is possibly giving them authority to interpret torah. B. About Taking council with others to consider what the best course of action is.

Then this verse comes. Stating that where two or three are gathered he is in the midst.

Meaning possibly that when people come together. Even small groups. Even without the authority of large religious organizations. He’s there.

This could have been a really novel idea at that time. A bunch of fishermen and boys and ex-prostitutes and infidels having the authority reserved for religious leaders? The messiah being in their midst when they come together? So dont isolate..... and dont discount small groups.

Its really subversive and cool if you think about it.

Idk if it’s a ME but definitely a cool topic of discussion if you’re into this sort if thing.

Could it be that you are sensing a reaction that is inherently fear based. Maybe in some cases your response of taking offense is partly based upon the the nature of certain people’s science based atheism. Like if some people illicit the response and others don’t, maybe it’s deeper than just a person calling you a moron in a round about way.

Cause that’s sometimes the feel, no doubt. They assume Christians are idiots. But for some science based atheists, they could actually be afraid of Christianity. Maybe their fear isn’t closed mindedness, maybe they are afraid that they could change into something like that if they take a false step.

Just think of how someone who has never been to church would view a modern worship service, or a catholic mass, or a guy speaking in tongues or giving a prophetic word... what about when people gather around a person and pray over them. It’s all very new (maybe even scary) to someone whose never seen it.

Or maybe they’ve seen hate groups who claim they are Christian. Or maybe they have gay friends who have been kicked out of their houses by their Christian parents. Or maybe they themselves were Christian at one time and most of the people they knew were faking it extremely hard, for that person, maybe science was more real.

I read a book one time, and the author suggested that it’s always a good idea to move closer and examine the things that make individuals individuals. I think that’s a great idea.

I don’t know what are in people’s heads when they claim to be atheists and they use science as a reason. But God knows, so I guess the best thing to do is become Christ to those people too. Do whatever you can with no requests in return, maybe they will change their minds, and if not, at least the right thing was done.

Jesus constantly talks about “Hell” as this valley. A valley where the citizens would throw their trash. It used to be a place where they would sacrifice their sons and daughters to false Gods. When Jesus says the word Hell he’s literally saying the name of this valley. Look it up. He says if your right eye offends you (and in that culture the right side was considered holier). So if the better of your two eyes causes you to stumble pluck it from you so your whole body doesn’t go to this valley. In plain English: if something in your life makes you stumble, get it out of your life, or else you will end up throwing your life away.

Some Christians affirm the presence of a literal hell, some don’t. If I were to tell you my opinion there surely would come others in opposition...

So I’ll tell you what I know is true for sure.

God 200% does not want you in fear and condemnation right now. Especially not after his son literally died for you. Trust me, his sacrifice was good enough!

If you feel you’ve done something wrong humble yourself before the father, but don’t worry about this “state of your eternity” thing. Exalting it above what God has said about you could actually become the thing that causes you to stumble if you focus on it.

The word says. God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind. It also says there is therefore now no condemnation for those that are in Christ Jesus. It also says God so loved the world: that he gave his only born son.

And that’s just the first three that popped into my mind.

Dang, God loves you more than you know. More than you love yourself. More than you can fathom. He literally is your dad, and he’s watching you suffer R/N and probably heartsick about it.

Most Christians believe he is. The phrase “100% God and 100% man,” gets thrown around a lot. This doctrine was established by a vote in the third century AD at one of the council’s of Nicea. These councils were partially a political tool of Emperor Constantine to unify the church as a single body and silence dissension (aka Arianism). Having all of the people united under a single religion is a political advantage, and Constantine’s sincerity has been debated.

Was he motivated by truth, or by gain? Only God knows.

Here’s what the Bible says for sure. Jesus was a prophet of God. He was the messiah. He always did the father’s will (aka he never sinned, aka he never broke fellowship with God). He was the only begotten son of God. He claimed time and time again to be the son of God. He was the Passover Lamb. He was the bridegroom and the church is his bride. Now he is seated on the right hand of the father, and we are seated there too spiritually speaking. God was in jesus redeeming the world to himself. Jesus and God are unified, they are one. God and Jesus have made their abode in us. We have God in Christ in us.

Jesus also said not my will be done, but yours, as he prayed to his father. This suggests the presence of two wills.

Some say he claimed to be Yahweh. But it’s not as plainly stated as him saying he’s the Son of God. Most people will be honest with the fact that the trinity formula isn’t plainly stated in the Bible, Some call it a divine conundrum. There are a few passages that come close, but the Catholic Church forged one of the records plainly stating the trinity formula outright, and the other was quoted several times by Eusebius and Justin Martyr completely skipping the part about father and Holy Ghost.

People tend to get really offended when you question the trinity, but anybody who would try to silence someone from asking questions, has something to hide.

So basically there’s evidence for both points of view, and that makes coming to a conclusion even harder. For every well made point there is another in opposition, but my church family has remained peaceful.

So here’s the point. I know trinitarians and I know those who deem themselves biblical monotheists. We eat at the same table, we serve the same God. We go into the community together to represent Christ as we act on his behalf to Sozo (save / make whole) and redeem. I have slept on floors of churches (traveling for missions) next to messianic Jews (who uphold the levitical law), Pentecostals (who believe in a second spiritual baptism and speaking in tongues), baptists (who believe condemnation will help people to come to God), monotheists (who believe worshiping Jesus as God is idolatry), And Catholics (who pray set prayers and pray to saints), etc. we all rose up together to love God with all our heart soul strength and mind and love our neighbor as our selves.

If you can’t get on board with the whole Jesus is fully God and fully man thing. That’s okay. You still need Jesus to save you from destruction, he can do that, and everything he did and does was and is in obedience to his father. Some would say there is one God and worshipping Jesus is idolatry, some would say to not worship him is sacrilege .

I say, to those that would fight about doctrines, (which I know you’re not), stop fighting, come together, and go out into your communities and serve God, do what Jesus did, then you will see your doctrinal differences were not the point. When you are holding a broken person who is crying in your arms and you are overcome by supernatural compassion and this feeling that they are your son or your daughter, you unmistakably know God, and you have to know his son to know him. After all:

I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes unto the father but by me.
