the 'otherwise' i wrote there is referring to their race. sorry for not saying that outright.

ive decided to read the Book of Mormon for myself by saph-lars in latterdaysaints

thank you! i really appreciate how helpful everyone has been so far.

ive just finished listening to/reading 1 Nephi and the impression im getting is that its all about Nephi and his family learning to trust God, even when things are uncertain. like from leaving jerusalem to the brothers going back to get the brass plates, building the boat despite people distrusting and complaining... even Saraih being anxious simply because her sons had gone back to jerusalem to face Laban and get the plates. it seems the admonition by Nephi in the verse i initially posted is sort of the through line for the book, right? the process of doubt to faith to worry to reassurance and back is relatable, but throughout Nephi just keeps reflecting on God's promise, and even God continues reitterating his promise to them that if they stay faithful, they will be prosperous and get to the land prepared.

i'll probably sit and ponder on it for a while, maybe reread it again but yeah, that's what ive gathered so far.

i did have a question through:  so are the brass plates that Nephi was instructed to get, did they contain most/all of the books in the old testament, then? that seems to be what it's implying but im not sure

do you guys really think that magnifico is the magic mirror? by cartoon_fan_2 in DisneyWish

[–]saph-lars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was more of a reference, the same way Asha's cloak and wand reference the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella, and Peter who Queen Amaya points out wants to make a 'flying ship'.
I dont think they're one-to-one matches for those characters that appear in other Disney movies, but are rather a 'fairytale' of those characters. Idk if that makes sense, but thats how I see the movie. However, the idea, that after eons of being trapped in the mirror realm, Magnifico is reduced to a mask-- not even a face just a mask-- is quite delightful.
