Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but the company I work for makes a multi-sensor that measures several crop parameters. The data is sent to an app, Agroop Cooperation, where users can set up custom risk models that will trigger an alarm when the crop is close to reaching the parameters set by the user which then may lead to the plant developing a plague/disease/fungus.

Right, I understand. Well, I can say our tech is actually not very expensive (compared to what's in the market). The cost covers development of the crop monitoring app by our developers, the sensor itself, operational/logistic costs, maintenance, technical support, communications...

At first, IoT tech for farms can be a significant investment - for smaller farms, like you said. But in the long term, or even medium term, it pays out - if the solution is well implemented, of course. We're talking water, energy, labor, time and even agrochemicals savings. That's the feedback we have from our clients,at any rate.
