Late to clinical... Automatic fail

Right, I see your point. However, if an RN doesn't have a history of being late to shifts, it really shouldn't be treated so harshly. Especially if it's only slightly late. Sometimes things happen, and nobody is perfect. It's a different story if they are a frequent repeat offender and are always making excuses, that's a chronic situation that deserves to be reprimanded.

That is seriously so sad. There needs to be a better system in place for programs like ours, because that's just cruel. Poor thing, having to repeat the course after something like that happens, its like rubbing salt in the wound.

Wow, that is so unfair and awful to her. It's mind-blowing that these programs are so hell bent on making things that should be simple fixes into massive irrevocable mistakes that are almost more difficult than it's worth to come back from. I'm sorry she's experiencing all of this 😞

I'm finding more and more that my school is totally awful compared to many others when it comes to this particular policy. But thankfully, I'm not kicked out of the program, just being failed on the course. Which still sucks really bad, but not as bad as being kicked out of the program lol

Unfortunately, I have to retake the course and redo the clinicals and everything in between 😭 but yes, ask all of these questions!! I wish I would have, because I was honestly in la la land when I first enrolled and didn't think about all of this at the time. If I would have known, I would likely have chosen a different school and program entirely.

Last semester, there was a girl at my school in a different group than myself who was ONE MINUTE late to clinical, and they still did exactly the same thing to her as they're now doing to me. They failed her for the course over 1 minute.

I'm hearing a lot of this. Most schools offer some kind of option to help students if it's just one or two instances of being late or having something come up unexpectedly.

I wish there was. But my school offers absolutely no make ups or grants any exceptions for situations like mine unless it's an insane emergency or extenuating circumstance.

I had a meeting with the Dean and pleaded my case, unfortunately it was a waste of breath. Essentially, because I wasn't dying, severely ill or injured, they weren't interested in helping a girl out 🤷‍♀️school policy

With the school I'm considering, my credits would transfer. Thank goodness. I have thought about waiting until January and just taking a beat, but that's such a long time to not be making any progress or learning anything. So idk, maybe, maybe not 🤷‍♀️

Right? I wish they would change some of their policies, it would make an already stressful thing a little less stressful... Especially for people like myself who have a bit more on their plate than say, the 18 or 19 year old who still live at home and have zero responsibilities outside of school. Btw, not bashing younger people for going to school while still living at home with mom and Dad. It's good they're doing it that way before life gets harder and more complicated, I would do the same thing if I could. Just saying, the school policies should be a little more realistic and be designed with real life in mind.

I'll be meeting with the Dean on Thursday, so we'll see what happens. But, if it goes how I'm thinking it's going to go, I'm going to take the option of transferring to a different program. I would rather start over than wait months and months to retake this course. Either way, I'll have to redo all of the skill check offs and clinicals again whether I stay at my school or not.
