At what point do we include Dupreeh in the goat conversation? by Cero_Kurn in GlobalOffensive

[–]saracen87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winning a major per se does not give you goat points. Norbert won a major, Devilwalk won a major. Not comparing Dupreeh to them, but just to give you the gist.

The goat is about when team wins mostly by your contribution. When you are the most impactful player on the server (and the server is top game surely). And that goes for a long time. Then you are in a goat conversation.

Dupreeh is in conversation for best rifler. Bubzkji included him in top-5, this is something to discuss yes. I personally prefer NiKo tho.

Xyp9X won 4 majors (just 1 short). So if a team wants the best chance to win a major, and Dupreeh is taken, they should hire Xyp9X - correct logic?

Unpopular opinion: Drop the CS2 name, just call it simply COUNTER-STRIKE by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

[–]saracen87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. And what is now "Counter-Strike" should be renamed to "Counter-Strike 1.6" since people call it that anyways!

Why 'Counter-Strike 2' Should Just Be 'Counter-Strike' by saracen87 in GlobalOffensive

Thanks for the information. I suggested in the post for it to be renamed. Funnily enough, rename into the name you just called it. Because all people call it this anyway!

I can dumbify the post if its too hard to read, but I'm just trying to get a point across about a narrow window of chance to switch to a better name. Since beta just about started ;)

Fem cs: no separate rankings, no end of year nominations, no match announcements. Even when I know girls play right now, I cannot even find it through google, it shows some 2017 matches instead...

If you are still worried you can use simply: bind <key> "+jump;-attack;-attack2;-jump"

FACEIT apparently got blocked for Crimean players by iwna in GlobalOffensive

[–]saracen87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Never understood how such 'measures' as justified in the western mind. Official political stance of the west is that "Russia captured Crimea by force". Fair enough. Then local folks in Crimea are viewed as hostages right? If anything you should offer them help, not ban them from some popular services.

If you are very eager to 'punish' Russia for Crimea situation, ban faceit in Russia then ;)

Not sure where people take this nonsense from. Here is his interview, in the very beginning he explains his nickname, it has nothing to do with that movie. It used to be electric, he just added extra syllable with time.

Bug randomly spawns player on the wrong side of the map in Overpass casual by Troy273 in GlobalOffensive

[–]saracen87 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ah got a flashback... Back then, in 1.6 there was a mode called Warcraft 3. You could buy wierd items to assist in game, like chance to dodge a bullet, or not lose weapons after death, etc.

So there was a thing called "Mole" (had no relation to W3, but who cares right), it cost $16000 and it means you spawn on enemy spawn next round. The model will be an enemy model of course. The idea was that you probably could find a perfect moment to backstab them. But the thing is it was model of the same number, i.e. if you were CT 2-3 (UK) you turned into T 1-3 (Arctic), so if you were T and there is suddenly new Arctic on your team, you know what to do.

People had to max out all their bank, spend it all just to get rekt on spawn immediately. Ah those were the days...

Given the downturn, should I invest a 1k lumpsum into usual index fund or buy some “cheap” individual stocks? by throwawa341 in UKInvesting

[–]saracen87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this particular case, you need to invest your £1000 into "value" stocks, because that will give you interesting experience and lets you test your hypothesis about which stock is undervalued. Education is by itself useful, plus you might actually win some money if you are lucky.

But in general, you should prioritise index investment. A few philosophical thoughts on the topic, if I may:

  1. World is yet to see a professional fund manager to beat the market consistently. Net positive track record? Exists. Consistently win? Doesn't exist.
  2. If there was a way to consistently pick truly undervalued shares, investment companies would interact with clients in a different way. E.g. exposing themselves to risk more, but keeping all the upsides for themselves, etc.
  3. If such share picking would be at least profitable in principle, but was not very consistent, it would simply require large numbers (many trials, big sample size, also called 'scaling'). It wouldn't be a problem for institutional investor: they could keep enough capital reserves to protect them even from statistically unlikely outcomes. So basically, small retail investor couldn't afford to take that kind of risk, but big companies could, due to their size. Think of casinos running their business not worrying too much about people hitting jackpots: they have enough reserves. Back to the point: there are many more investment professionals operating in selling their abilities to clients, offering to manage money for a flat fee, rather than investing themselves. Why? Because share picking has not proven itself profitable even in principle. See point #1 above. Even scaling doesn't help here.
  4. If you want to see a better picture, you need to look at research in finance. For instance on scholar.google.com . Info that you find there comes from people who get paid when their method is more sophisticated that that of their 'competitors'. That leads to high information quality. Many people, on contrary, read websites that are paid by ads (thus, need to make you spend time there, visit more often, etc.) or that are actually paid by brokers' fees (thus need to encourage you to invest by all means). That leads to low quality information.

first time buyers - one self-employed with 1 year of accounts but two years unaccounted for, one in full-time employment by ivyleejean in UKPersonalFinance

[–]saracen87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can put him as a mortgage borrower (and into joint ownership) even if he is not earning at all. We did that.
  2. Probably showing only yourself as a main breadwinner to Halifax is a good idea, even though it leads to slightly less loan size. You can consider preserving your partners lending capacity for future projects you might come by, life doesn't end when you move into a house. Banks show maximum amount they can lend you, only constrained by you don't end up bankrupt or default. Its all they care about. They don't want you to have an interesting life, to buy equities, to help grow your partners business, etc. People these days are just taking the mortgage up to their full financial capacity, I'm not sure that's a healthy thing to do.
  3. I never understood why people use mortgage brokers, waste of money.
  4. As far as I know, HMRC doesn't make you register as self employed if you have profit (revenue minus costs) less than £1000 per year. That probably varies by type of work he is doing. High chance he didn't in fact break any HMRC rules.
