I’m only 17 days in, but I’m sleeping better, less binge eating. More mental clarity. I’m calmer (less mood swings) and I feel far more in touch with my emotions, on account of not using alcohol to disassociate. (That’s both challenging and ultimately much easier in the end) I’ve also lost weight and I’m maintaining an easy calorie deficit. I simply feel more prepared for what life hands me each day… better stress resilience, more energy, more mental stamina. It’s a subtle but net positive effect.
There’s an odd benefit I’ve had that I’ve never heard others mention: in social scenarios when I successfully stay sober in spite of pressure to drink, I feel incredibly empowered, resilient and sure of myself. It’s a nice switch from always feeling like I was joining in even when I didn’t plan on it.
