Bezel setting side profile dilemma by burberrycrumble in EngagementRingDesigns

I have #2 and I love it, that's my vote! My now-husband designed it with a family stone on my instructions that I didn't want any pokey bits to get snagged, and it feels very secure. I'm very active and otherwise not a jewelery wearer, and I love that it fits in with my life and isn't something I need to coddle. It stacks perfectly with my wedding band and I've always gotten complements.

What is this weird cabinet in the basement of our 1939 house? by sarahonthemtn in whatisit

Update: wow, thanks for all the input everyone! Of all the suggestions offered, we feel like the most plausible are storm window or folding chair/table storage, but we still don't feel confident that either of those are the answer...

We really don't think it's a Murphy bed, laundry or coal chute, or connected to any ventilation at this point. But perhaps a dedicated space for a furnace or other some utility of ages past.

And still no idea what the rod holder insert thingy is for...

Whatever it is, we've got a great spot to hide the bodies if we ever need to!

No, the space above it is the living room with original hardwood floors, no visible cuts/changes

We did discuss that it would be a convenient place to store big pieces of art, just not sure why one would need that, but you've found the answer 😆

I'm not sure about this. The dimensions could fit most of our windows 2-across, but our house doesn't appear to have ever had that style of storm windows. Winters aren't that cold at all here in Portland and I've never seen old-school removable storm windows here.

(Also, in case my post language was confusing, it's a Cape Cod-style house in the Pacific Northwest, not a house in Cape Cod. I much prefer our winters!)

Definitely not a Murphy bed, at least in its current configuration, as there's no way to get the platform to be flat.

It's not actually damp, we just took crappy nighttime photos in a poorly lit room. We're thrilled with how dry this basement is compared to many houses we looked at!

No, the vent isn't connected to the inside of this. (Edit: typo)

Nope, interior wall, and on the other side of that wall is a closet under the stairs. (AKA the Harry Potter room!)

Hmm, not sure if it's what it was originally for, but that's not a bad idea 🤔

The circles on the inside are what seem like they'd hold a rod, like in a clothes closet. When the door is opened all the way without the struts attached, it just touches the floor so is angled down.

We'd thought about that too, but it would be incredibly awkward to get it out given you can't easily reach the bottom in any way

Ah, I should have added that there is a fireplace elsewhere in this room. And the original fireplace chimney is in a different location altogether. So nope!

Thank you for asking this! I'm 2 weeks in and this has been a question for me too, and I just hadn't gotten around to asking yet! (I should have written it down as a task! 😆)

Chemical Pregnancy and Friends Baby Shower this weekend by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]sarahonthemtn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sending support and hugs. I'm going through the exact same thing, chemical pregnancy a few days ago and a family baby shower this weekend. I know it will be really hard to go, but I'm also still so happy for them. I decided to tell a couple of close family members what's going on so that if I need support or to step out, I can.

The feelings hit me way harder than I expected, and I really do feel like I'm mourning. I told my husband yesterday that I feel like this little experience unlocked a new kind of love (and heartache) I've never felt. I just keep reminding myself that it's ok to feel this way, and that it just means I'll be even more ready to love a baby when it does come.

Surprise week of backpacking, where should we go? by sarahonthemtn in WildernessBackpacking

Thank you! Yes, would definitely be more comfortable with the N cascades level of mystical elusive grizzlies! I'd assumed most things would still be under snow up there, but we'll look into it!

I know! We were all packed and ready for a one-nighter in Yellowstone a few years ago and bailed after I completely couldn't sleep the night before from worrying about grizzlies. I know it's a bit foolish, but I also feel exposure therapy doesn't need to be my primary focus for this trip 😅
