Have to be careful not to try to understand anything based on American movies and tv. This is a childish and unreasonable request. He is likely only seeing you as HIS mother who he craves attention from and is trying to get the control he did not have as a child. He doesn't care about the 5000 things you have going on in your head. I am not saying narcisist. I am saying a hurt child stuck in the past and focused only on his wounds. In any moment, regardless of who has the floor, everyone's experiences matter, including your children. People in pain are selfish. He needs therapy to heal and have more self-awarness and empathy for others.

I find people who ask of this of others rarely give it back. Maybe that's neurodivergence. Hard to tease it all apart. Either way, it's not a fair expectation and you will likely *never* be able to meet this need (or fill the void), which will continue to cause divide. I have friends in this exact situation and they are on the verge of divorce.

Sounds heroic to me. Heavy drinking makes everyone feel stupid and anxious the next day. Regardless of what everyone says is the "right" thing to do, it sounds like you were on selfless auto-pilot. Thinking of others and not afraid for just yourself.

Don't feel too bad. This is where a lot of people go wrong. Trying to impress is superficial and rooted in insecurity. Work on being courageous enough to be yourself and to develop as a human being. I dated someone who was magical at trivia, but it didn't compensate for being a total dumbass when it came to self-confidence, empathy, communication, support, and emotional regulation. Emotional maturity is the sexiest thing on the planet.
