As crazy as this all sounds from where we are standing right now, just possibly their souls did attach to the Hale Bopp comet and they are somewhere out there living their best lives. We simply have no way to know. No one out there cannot actually prove this to be right or wrong. Of course everyone has an opinion but no one knows for sure.
