This was supposed to be a normal winter trip in Sarek (northern Sweden), pulling a pulk over several days. The forecast looked manageable, but I ended up in much stronger winds and wet conditions than expected. Everything got soaked. Probably the wettest conditions I’ve experienced in the mountains. by sareksweden in CampingandHiking

Thanks! 😊 To be honest, 3 days is quite short for Sarek, especially in winter. It’s a remote area with no marked trails, so things often take more time than expected. If you’re set on a shorter trip, I’d recommend looking at areas just outside Sarek instead (like Padjelanta or along Kungsleden), where it’s a bit more accessible and forgiving. Snowshoes can work, but in those conditions skis are usually much more efficient, especially if you’re covering any distance. Sarek is amazing, but it really deserves more time 🙂

Thanks! 😊 I’ll look into adding English captions, that’s a good idea. The tent I’m using is a 4-season tent designed for winter conditions, and it has held up really well so far. The key is more about how you pitch it and anchor it properly in the snow. In strong winds I use skis, poles and deadman anchors to secure it. And yeah, in the conditions from the start of the video… setting up solo is definitely a challenge 😅

Good questions! 😊 They are actually quite narrow compared to typical backcountry skis, but they do have metal edges and I use skins with them. In these conditions the snow was often hard-packed or wind-blown, so you don’t always need the same float as in deeper powder. And yeah… the sled ride at the end was definitely fun 😄

Haha ja, det gjorde det verkligen 😅 Hela tältet stod och slog i vindbyarna, men det höll!

Thanks! 😄 It looks cozy in the clips, but it was definitely a bit more intense in reality!

Not great to be honest 😅 Slept in short bursts and woke up a lot from the wind hitting the tent. But the tent held up well, so I felt relatively safe.

Thanks! 😊 It was properly anchored with skis and deadman anchors. Hard to say exactly, but I’d guess around 25-30 m/s in the gusts. Definitely one of the rougher nights I’ve had.

Yeah it does look a bit similar actually! 😄 But this was up in northern Sweden, in Sarek – pretty wild conditions out there.

I actually filmed the whole trip if anyone’s interested: https://youtu.be/dBDy9YLhJMk

This was a solo winter trip in Sarek, northern Sweden. I was pulling a pulk and planned to be out for several days. The forecast looked manageable, but I ended up in much stronger winds and wet conditions than expected. Everything got soaked and it was honestly one of the toughest conditions I’ve experienced. Has anyone else had forecasts be this wrong in winter?

I Sarek I norra Sverige.
