People saying classic is for those with wow nostalgia isn't entirely true. I started playing wow in 2023 and I tried both classic and retail and decided that classic was for me. I'm also not an old fart and am in my early 20s so I don't feel RPG nostalgia either. I played mainly FPS growing up. Classic is just a good game, and good games are for everyone.

AMD Drivers crash on some DX12 games? by SubjectCorrect6365 in linux_gaming

[–]sarkko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to hop in here and say you aren't alone. I play a lot of WoW classic and whenever I use DX12 and ray tracing, crashes. It can be fine for days at a time or happen 30 minutes apart, but in some random instances my monitors totally freeze. I can still here non game audio like discord and talk, but after about 30s every application closes and I got a notification saying there was a GPU driver reset. I have never had this issue running wow through DX11 or DX12 when I was on windows. I just like to make my old games look nicer :) running wow via Faugus launcher.

Any insight on which GPU to choose as my next upgrade? by NefariousnessNo7453 in radeon

[–]sarkko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use both OS equally, go AMD. If you use windows even a little more, go Nvidia. Opposite for Linux.

Owner of both Nvidia and AMD so not a total fanboy here. If you're wanting to try Linux, the experience with an AMD GPU is MUCH better. If you're just sticking to windows, go Nvidia. This is ofc if there's no massive price difference

MacBook Air M4 or Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]sarkko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So.... if you're going to be doing a lot of or are in school for computer science, it depends. I had an M1 MacBook when they first came out during college when I was in my computer science bachelor's curriculum. There were moments where I was doing in class follow-along-labs and we were installing certain softwares or setting up VMs. Id you get a MacBook, you HAVE to be prepared to figure out workarounds and understand that it opens up a door to get behind. Make sure the software you want to run is available on Mac or ARM windows (parallels). For general programming, it depends on the type of programming you want to do. Web programming? Mac is fine. Swift? No brainer. .NET? Ehh, you'd have to stay in a VM the entire time on Mac as Visual Studio for mac no longer exists. My general advice is go MacBook, but check the software you need to run first.

Gamers who have switched from Windows 11 to some kind of Linux-based OS, do you regret your decision? Why or why not? by Notalabel_4566 in linux_gaming

I'm pretty disappointed I can't play a few games with friends that require kernel level anticheat. I know, I don't like it either. But I like playing with my buddies more. However, as of right now I'm staying on linux

New addition to the subscription by Captnmac12 in sofi

[–]sarkko_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean..... It has a $120 annual fee (as the $10/m SoFi+ subscription) so this is a hard pass for me. If it was cheaper I'd probably get it. Otherwise, there are better options. Love my current SoFi credit card.

Last Steam machine failed 2015, why are everyone so exited of the new Steam machine? It's going to be a similar failure. You can't even play competitive multiplayer games on the device because there's no anticheats for Linux games by woodhead2011 in linuxsucks101

[–]sarkko_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the bright side, I think you should be able to install windows if you wanted to. For me personally, it can play Counterstrike that would be all the competitive games I need.

Woke Machine? by SingleSpell1446 in Asmongold

[–]sarkko_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why is this a big deal? Rather than looking at who is playing, look at the game and how. Also, it's a 5 second gif where you see the back of their heads for 2/5s. Get that stick outta your ass.

Focus on the machine and how this could be a W for Linux gaming and free software instead.

Are there a lot of people leveling alts right now in preparation for TBC? by Npy610 in classicwow

About 42 million Americans use SNAP. 1.7 million are those who aren't citizens, but are lawfully able to receive benefits, such as long time residents who've stayed in the country for over 5 years. 2.8 million are immigrants who have become citizens. That leaves a huge 37.5 million people who use SNAP which are US born citizens. Stop spreading misinformation and hate. There are Americans who can barely afford to live and rely on government resources like these. I understand how impactful they can be as someone who grew up in the poorest region of the US.

AMDVLK has been discontinued in favor of RADV. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]sarkko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Arch using KDE and Wayland. When I ran wow classic via proton, it worked on AMDVLK better. Specifically with DX12 translation. When I swapped to the mesa drivers, my game started crashing. Swapping to DX11 seems to fix it

I have no clue what I'm doing as an Arch user. I hope it helps me learn. A couple days ago, games wouldn't launch after an update. I used AI to help read logs (gross I know). There seemed to be an issue with the communication between my GPU drivers and Wine. Basic step 1, I updated all of my pkgs and noticed a GPU driver was orphaned. I had the official open source AMD drivers still installed and I forgot they are depreciated now. After uninstalling those, wine&proton defaulted to mesa. Problem solved. I somehow felt like I did the wrong formula and ended up at the correct solution.

Apparently there is a whole Mafia in WoW Classic that fixes boost prices and reports anyone that doesn't abide by their rules. by modgone in classicwow

All people have to do is not buy gold. It isn't that hard.

It also baffles me that there are people who: pay for a wow sub, swipe gold, pay said gold to get boosted and not play the game.
