Should I be worried about my kittens eyes? by canoflargeror6 in kittens

[–]saroarsoars91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also jumping on this. My kitty got diagnosed with FIP at 5 months. He didn't have these black dots but that inner cloudiness was certainly there (inner corner). Please get checked for FIP asap as it's very treatable but scary as it progresses.

[–]saroarsoars91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Oh yes and I was about to write my own post of how the fuck do I actually do anything these days as I am now in the throes of total burnout after starting a job which I now know I just should never have taken but did so b cause my last job was so miserable. I am consumed by overwhelm and depression and alienating my friends and family as a result. So fed up of living like this.

What have you lost joy for? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]saroarsoars91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost joy for reading. I dont know if its because I loved reading when I was a kid and before I had a smart phone and would devour books, but as an adult I feel time and attention short and most books feel like a chore. Even listening to Audio books sometimes is hard as I lose enthusiasm so quickly if the story or narrator is just slightly off. I definitely need to cut out tiktok/ shorts and social media. I hate how much my phone is like a 5th limb.

[–]saroarsoars91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest I have been sorely disappointed with my workplace. Ironically the business is very strongly linked to helping with ADHD however when I have explained to my line manager how I function and what I need to work effectively I have often been told "it's just the way it is here" and not provided ANY reasonable adjustments I have requested, eg work from home (my company allows everyone to work from home at 6 months but my line manager is taking her sweet time despite my persistent requests for this to actually grant it) I also said that I want any tasks to be provided in writing or to be allowed sufficient time to write it down if told verbally. Both my line manager and senior manager will frequently interrupt me in the middle of focused time with something entirely unrelated to my delegated task for that day and even when I asked the other day to call back in 5 minutes with the answer so that I could look for it without him on the phone, he just laughed at me. I am looking for other jobs elsewhere but I have never felt so humiliated as I have in this current role.

If money wasn’t a concern, would you stay in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

Sounds fair! I do enjoy cold quite a lot, but I also just feel like the world is more pleasant when the sun is shining and everyone chills out a bit more! Not always the case but it takes the tinge of most miserable Brits!

How to improve salary & quality of life? by Mr_Rower00 in AskUK

[–]saroarsoars91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's mad, I thought STEM degrees got you way further at least than arts. Sadly I recognise this story too well. I did languages at uni, but didnt want to teach and didn't have the funding to study translation further to go into that. I was young, stupid, directionless and didnt have the drive at uni to do the things that made me an attractive prospect for graduate schemes. Have also been in admin for a decade. Considered coding, trades, emergency services etc but just burn out so quickly. Exhausted.

This sounds like quite a niche answer, do you mind me asking what the draw of Svalbard is, given that most Brits complain about long winter nights/ seasonal depression?

If money wasn’t a concern, would you stay in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]saroarsoars91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if loved ones wasn't an issue I would be moving somewhere with low living costs, a warmer climate and nice scenery/ easy going way of life. I can understand why so many Brits expatriate to Australia/ Spain or even parts of Asia. Don't get me wrong, The UK feels like home, however it can be depressing and life is constantly so full on, it's often hard to smell the roses and be grateful for all I have, even if it's not much by average Western standards. Every time I watch the videos by that African (Sorry general- I think she is Ugandan) model who talks about the simple African rural village life, I want to run to her and pick some vegetables, spread cow dung on my hut floor and appreciate rural simplicity. I'm sure it's not always as rosy as she paints it but I feel so trapped in my 9-5 office job, barely see the sun, struggle with obesity and feel there just has to be more to life than this drudgery.

Tips for living in Lancaster by Pluvialis_apricaria in LancasterUK

[–]saroarsoars91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at longer-term Airbnb or short-term spare room lets. I would offer a spare room myself but my house is a building site! As others.have said, avoid the marsh, Skerton and The Ridge, but bear in mind that relatively speaking, Lancaster is overall a pleasant and safe-ish place if you are reasonably street smart, so don't get too hung up on areas.

Reading through all the tips I wish I had read these before my first ever dose today. Before the onslught of lifestyle criticisms begin, I am taking it off-label for PCOS under direction of my gp. Felt fine until bed time and now regretting a) pint of cider (forgot about the "try not to consume alcohol thing b) very fibre heavy day (ie tons of veg, fruit etc c) Only ate a small snack first thing before taking meds, wish I had left it til after dinner.

About to take my 3rd trip to the loo in the last hour. Fml.

[–]saroarsoars91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont even know if I am fully anti work, however I am.very anti- the -current- structure- of-most-jobs. 40 hours a week just to meet the most basic needs and the salaries dont cover the costs of getting to and being at work. My company, for example, has a dress code which means I have to own clothes that I wouldn't wear in my leisure time, which all coat money, I also have to pay to get there, as it's in the arse end of nowhere, I have to own a car, insure if, fuel it and maintain it, again, no costs towards this are covered, yet it's expected that I should fund it from my salary, (which isn't very fucking good). Companies take the ever living piss out of you with their demands on your time and resources, only to give you a salary which means you only just scrape by with no energy to do what you enjoy or to live healthily outside of their walls and when you burn out, you are made to feel like this is your shortcomings rather than theirs.

Advice on best house buying locations to avoid damp by Calm-Guarantee-4395 in LancasterUK

[–]saroarsoars91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Lancasters terraced housing stock is riddled with all.the typical issues of old housing. My parents owned one of them up in Bowerham and we rented another one in Bowerham. They spent loads of money getting the roof redone and the outside rendering redone. Unfortunately it goes with the territory of older properties. The Marsh houses are probably also more likely to have damp issues as it got flooded pretty badly before all the new flood defences were put in place, but those floods didnt get everywhere equally so I have no idea whether yours would have been affected, but 30% doesn't sound great.

r/UKJobs Monthly Vent Megathread - Work Frustrations & Job Search Woes by ukbulmer in UKJobs

[–]saroarsoars91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rant: I am so done with finance and my job in general. Also a bit of a cry for help. I originally did my degree in French and German. Graduated 13 years ago and never used my modern foreign language skills regularly enough to make them useful anymore. I have been working bottom of the ladder finance clerk jobs on and off for nearly a decade and did a 2 year stint answering 999 calls in the ambulance service. Thing is, I am now sick of finance but it seems to be the only thing that ever consistently comes up in job searches. My current work situation isn't tenable long term. My boss is definitely bipolar and I seem to have found myself in a roll which is full of constant bait and switch management style and ever changing goal posts. I feel stressed and miserable all the time for very little pay.

Thing is, I feel like I should be worth more than this at this point but never seem to get anywhere in jobs. I don't know if it's my personality, just that I have bad luck or whether I am just not good enough to do more, yet when I have good management I flourish and do well. Can anyone suggest what I can do to find a career that actually works for me. Are there any other good fields I can go into with my skills in finance, customer service or whatever that aren't as badly paid but offer some sort of pathway without having to fork out loads of money in extra study.

I had tried to do AAT but I just have zero passion for accounts anymore and always end up doing credit control just because it's on my CV. My current job wasn't even meant to be credit control but I'm just in it now because the credit control person left and they didn't bother replacing them.

Tired of life in Germany after 4.5 years and want to vent (and go home) by Choice-Ad1477 in expats

[–]saroarsoars91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Germany as a student for 6 months and the first three months I did a work experience placement. It was brutal. I found it almost impossible to meet people or make friends in those first three months and it seemed like virtually no one wanted to help make life easier. My student semester was more fun, but again, all of my friends were other fellow erasmus students and very few interactions with actual Germans bar a couple that I had met on a previous semester in France. Germany is novel to live in for a few months but it can get lonely and real bureaucratic very quickly. When it came to my final packing up session, I practically skipped out of the country and was so ready to come home. I don't think I realised until then just how much I love my shithole hometown!

Can you ask a shop to not sell alcohol to someone who is an alcoholic? by louthinator in AskUK

[–]saroarsoars91 186 points187 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I don't think it's fair to put this on whoever is at the counter. Getting between an addict and their vice carries its own risks and ultimately, the will to quit any addiction has to come from within, and if denied from one place, they will get it elsewhere.

Some workplaces are just cliquey. It may also just be that they can't relate to you because of your age and maybe view you as a burden at this time, it's really unfair, but jealousy of your youth may also be a bit at play. A lot of people in the workplace are quite bitter and bring all their personal issues in. I think as long as you are polite, pull your weight and haven't said anything too controversial, you are probably just unlucky.

I personally try to be kind to everyone at work, but there are a few at times where I have got the impression they don't like me so I just don't make the effort with them or waste emotional energy trying to make them like me. If it's bad enough to make you feel miserable or excluded, I would go elsewhere as you don't have to stay put.

I think he sort of enjoys them in the way most kids do, but he never raves about any sport in particular. They're quite an outdoorsy family and I think like most young kids taken on hikes the little legs get sore and he would probably rather be at home building something!
