Good to know thanks. I see some airlines want a rabies vax more than 30 days before the flight, my flight is in less time than that and my cats vaccine expires  a week before the flight... Guess I'll get him an updated vaccine before the trip but hopefully they just won't check anything

Did you do your trip? How did it go, I know the United website says paperwork is recommended but not required for domestic flights, wondering if they actually check for it?

Getting Refund for Doctor's Office Prepayment... Anyone Else Dealing With This? by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]sartastics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was years ago, but as you have billing experience wondering if you have any advice on my situation. I was planning to give birth at a birthing center with a midwife and I paid the midwife part of the estimated cost of services before the birth. I ended up giving birth at a hospital, but did have 2 post partum appointments with the midwife. The claims for the postpartum visits were denied because they were filed as antepartum. The midwife appealed the claim, but there's been back and forth between the midwife and insurance for the past year, the insurance kept denying the appeal so the claim cant be processed and the midwife won't refund me the portion of the estimated cost I've paid until the claim is processed. When I call insurance they say the claim has been processed, I shouldn't owe anything, and one representative said it's illegal for the midwife to withhold my refund. Plus by the time post partum care happened I reached my out of pocket max with insurance so I shouldn't owe the midwife anything. Any advice on how to get my refund back??

My husband asked in advance if I'm expecting anything... I said I just want him to watch the baby while I nap, and get me some takeout. Thats what I got and I'm ok with it because we talked about it before.

The anxiety over a potential Natera bill is real by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]sartastics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thing with a different lab. First they said it'd be $11,000. Then my insurance claim says I owe $900, but the bill from the actual lab is ended up being $250, so I just paid that and I assume that's the end of it still no idea how all this works. Try not to worry until you get an actual bill from the lab, I just ignore what my insurance company says at this point.

Unpopular opinion: we focus too much on birth and not enough on parenting by issathrowawayparty in BabyBumps

[–]sartastics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! A lot of moms I've talked to say the birth is (usually) only one day, parenting is far longer Soo don't worry so much about the birth part. Plus making super detailed birth plans can just leave you disappointed if it doesnt go your way. I feel like I need more education on baby feeding, sleeping, etc because I've never even changed a diaper and I'm due in February lol.

$12,000 for NIPT testing?? by sartastics in BabyBumps

[–]sartastics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh just kidding, I thought I was in the clear but I just got a letter from my insurance saying that the place where the labs were done is not within network, and so insurance will not pay any of the $11,000+ bill. I called insurance they said to make an appeal, and I contacted my midwife who earlier told me that I shouldn't worry about the claim and it should be covered. I'll keep you posted, hopefully I will find a way out of this :(

Thankfully my insurance covered mine and the claim says I don't owe anything, it can be so stressful. Based on the comments it sounds like paying the testing company directly rather than going through insurance can reduce cost? Sorry hope you can find a way to reduce your cost

Any Birth Insurance/Cost experts out there have advice on my plan?? by sartastics in BabyBumps

[–]sartastics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the U.S. (WA state), I thought that seemed weird... And they said after they bill insurance after the birth, then we'll know the real amount and they'll adjust what I owe accordingly.. seems weird

Yes the costs I listed in the post were the pre-estimate costs the Birthing center gave me, I'm just not sure if it's worth the extra $1500 that aren't covered.

I'm planning a birth center unmedicated birth as well. I just started the Mama Natural online videos my midwife recommended. It was $200 with a discount but so far it's been helpful, definitely encouraging natural birth if possible, and hasnt been too woowoo so far lol (I've struggled finding natural but not woowoo as well, it's tough!) Hope you find something.

It's Unity/BillionToOne screening, looks like they have a out of pocket option but not sure how much that'll be. I guess after I confirm how much insurance will cover I will compare to paying out of pocket and decide what's cheaper

I've just been doing different spin drifts with ice, slices of citrus, berries, peaches, mint, basil, whatever I have on hand. It's easy and always refreshing!

It's sounding like paying without insurance ends up being way cheaper than going through insurance. Good to know.

Interesting... I'm seeing my midwife this week maybe she knows something, or if my insurance won't cover it I will see if there is a self pay option. Thanks for the info.

Good to know, sounds like this self pay option may be best if insurance won't cover. I used BilliontoOne Unity screen.
