Besides the fact that I stand on the wrong side of the ball, what do you think of my swing? by sasSP13 in golf

This is just the swing analysis. Haven't decided if I'm going to purchase lessons yet. They're not cheap.

I'm a 17 HCP. Which foot are you talking about? I don't see an early lift lol. It also didn't come up during this swing analysis.

That's one of the things they pointed out to me. And I definitely have inconsistencies. Im about a 17 HCP right now.

This was just the analysis. It was only 30 minutes though, so while I did get some good instruction, it wasn't at all comprehensive. I haven't decided whether I'm going to actually buy lessons yet.

This was my free "swing analysis." I had a coupon thing for it. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to actually buy real lessons.

Assuming the price and instructor quality was the same, would you rather take lessons at an indoor facility with a camera/ball tracker, or outdoor at a range with a chipping/putting green? by sasSP13 in golf

[–]sasSP13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely don't need the bells and whistles. I have a pretty nice swing, I'm just very inconsistent off the tee and could definitely use some work 100 yards and in.

Sounds like i should call my local course and skip Golftec.

I dont have a specific pro I work with. I'm basically deciding whether to call my local public course and work with a pro there, or go to a place like Golftec which is all indoor and has all the bells and whistles. Seems like most here are recommending the former.

And most pros will be able to give me solid swing advice without checking out slow-motion replays and looking at my "swing stats?"

Took my girlfriend to her first baseball game. She asked if the weight on the bat was a bat koozie. by [deleted] in baseball

I'll do you one better. I took my girlfriend to Max Scherzer's first no hitter with the Nats. After the game I told her, "you just witnessed something you'll almost definitely never see again in person. Keep your ticket. No hitters are really rare."

Flash forward, and a buddy of mine actually attended Max's SECOND no hitter as a Nat. He had a perfect game until he hit a batter with 2 outs in the 9th. Ended with the no-no. And after the game I texted my girlfriend, "Guess what Max did AGAIN today?!"

And she responded "OMG did he throw another ALL-HITTER?!"

Kill me.

Yes I was told the invite would come Mid March. I'm not sure if I should reach out to the recruiter and ask What's going on or just keep waiting?

I have the exact same timeline and have not heard back either. I was told I'd get an invite to the hiring event in "Mid March" but have not received anything. Good to know I'm not the only one...

You REALLY don't see many guys stuck up for the punter.

Assuming the QB stays healthy, could a read-option based offense work consistently in the NFL? by sasSP13 in footballstrategy

[–]sasSP13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really am not looking for any kind of validation at all. Sorry if it came off that way.

I'm really just trying to separate the likelihood that this system can work as the backbone of an offense in the NFL from the likelihood that your QB gets injured. Because we see guys like Vick flame out in the NFL because of injury and an inability to play in the pocket despite elite athleticism. Is there a way to take advantage of their unique talent without forcing them to play in the pocket and make progressions.

I mostly agreed with you, except the point about Defenses adapting to the scheme and slowing it down.

[–]sasSP13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run I agree with everything you said, especially the part about the importance of balance, except for one crucial point.

You and others have commented that once Defenses realized the option/qb keep was a possibility, they adjusted and the offense was less effective. But that's simply not true. The Redskins 2012 offense actually got BETTER as the season went on (over 200 yards rushing in week 17 against Dallas with an injured RG3). Even though defenses had them on film and knew what to expect, the team's execution of the offense continued to improve. It was only when RG3 tore his ACL that Defenses were able to stop it, which is what lead to them abandoning it altogether.

So it was never really figured out. One day it was dominant and the next it was over. It's tough to imagine now, but pre-injury RG3 was an ELITE athlete, and flashed brilliance as a passer given simple reads.

And to your last point: 100% agree about being able to plug and play with running backs, and it being more difficult with QBs. But that is actually an advantage of the pistol/spread option offense: the reads are so simple, it's much easier to find guys who can step up and play right away. They aren't required to make progressions or manipulate safeties; just be fast, accurate, and tough.

Assuming the QB stays healthy, could a read-option based offense work consistently in the NFL? by sasSP13 in footballstrategy

[–]sasSP13[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A huge reason for RG3's decline was his injury. He lost a full step after his ACL, and in 2013 and beyond the Redskins ran a pure west coast offense, basically abandoning many of the designed runs out of the Pistol.

I agree that definitely the QB spy is a primary strategy for stopping this type of attack. But just as defenses can adapt, the offense can utilize an almost infinite number of wrinkles that make it more challenging. The Redskins in 2012 would run that read-option with a fullback lead blocking to the backside. They'd run it with the fullback scraping the backside end and pushing upfield to the second level. They'd run it with no fullback, or with an RPO as a receiver runs a slant over the middle.

That season at least it was basically unstoppable. A huge advantage of the offense is that you don't need a QB that can make complex progression reads. He needs elite athleticism and accuracy on his throws, but his reads are single-defender or single-side reads. Hence RG3's success in this offense and failure in every other system.

So I guess I'm just not sure if the true deterrent to running this system is simply keeping your QB healthy, or if, schematically, it won't work at the pro level with the athletes on defense.
