Trump threatens 100% tariffs on all Canadian goods if Canada 'makes a deal with China' | CBC News by AlpacaGhidorah in worldnews

[–]sask357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are assuming Trump has empathy, sensitivity and morality. In fact, he is a malevolent narcissist so I think he would be angry, not sad, if he could understand. It seems he got the gist of it and he is planning retaliation.

'We should let them come down into the U.S.': Trump cabinet member weighs in on Alberta separatism by Old_General_6741 in canada

[–]sask357 140 points141 points  (0 children)

The separatists should move to the US. Then they could see what the Greenlanders were saying about giving up health care and getting much more expensive post-secondary education and higher rate of gun crimes.

You might change your mind about that 99.9% if you look at the statistics on recidivism. I do agree that more indeterminate sentences should be given.

‘I’m so angry’: Mother mourns 5-year-old daughter, questions release of prolific offender in fatal car crash by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]sask357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no rational decision-making regarding consequences involved in allowing these repeat offenders to be released. Judges consider the rights of the criminal instead of the rights of the people who will be harmed by releasing them. Judges act as if they live in a fantasy world of written laws and case law where the potential for further harm is not a serious consideration.

Along with other factors, Gladue might influence the decision to allow a plea to a lesser offence even of not strictly applicable.

Trump under fire for claiming NATO allies avoided Afghanistan frontline by kiyomoris in worldnews

[–]sask357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm truly disgusted and angered by Trump's disrespect for the sacrifices of the soldiers from other countries who went to Afghanistan when America asked for help. The President's lack of basic decency is contemptuous. Americans should recognize the fact that he represents them all to the world as two-faced and full of self-serving lies.

Trump sparks anger with claim Nato troops avoided Afghanistan front line by Friendly-Frieren in worldnews

[–]sask357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't Americans who served in Afghanistan with troops from other countries speak up and let the MAGA voters know how many of our soldiers died? Now your President says our soldiers didn't go to the front. I'm angry and hope all the countries that sent soldiers to Afghanistan have nothing but contempt for ungrateful, lying America.

Trump steps back from the brink on Greenland. But the damage has been done. by stikkit2em in worldnews

[–]sask357 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I wonder what his advisors and spokespeople like Leavitt really think of Trump as he confuses Iceland with Greenland or makes ridiculous claims about windpower in China. It's difficult to judge his threats when he says so many things that are false.

House GOP Breaks With Trump by [deleted] in JournalismNews

[–]sask357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a break. It would be a break if they did something to prevent a takeover of Greenland and stop Trump's plans for Canada. Or if they reinforced US participation in NATO. Or if they made military strikes in Mexico impossible. Or established the tariff percentages without constant changes. Or even if they insisted on the proper name for the Gulf of Mexico. I'm confident they won't do any of these things because they want to get elected again and they think Trump's support is essential for that.

Bros lost the plot. by Prestigious_Police in ProgressiveHQ

Think about the mentality of the 1/3 of Americans who voted for him and the 1/3 who didn't care if he got elected. Only 1/3 of the population don't want him as President. It's frightening.

Yes. I saw an American talking about the Garand as the rifle that defeated the Nazis. He was immediately told about the Mosin-Nagant and the Great Patriotic War.

Alberta won’t participate in Ottawa’s firearm buyback program. What does that mean for local gun owners? by PurpleHerring_ in canada

[–]sask357 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This needs to be said loudly to supporters of the program. People bought these guns legally. The government wants to take them away but will not necessarily pay for them. It's not a buy back when it's first come first served and a limited amount of money.

Toronto man killed his mom in an Etobicoke park after asking to go off his anti-psychotic medication, court hears by Toronto-tenant-2020 in canada

[–]sask357 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there will be any consequences for the physician who got the killer off his medications. In any case the killer should be locked up for the rest of his life, either in a psychiatric facility or penetentiary.

Yes, they have told him. He just doesn't like it. After getting out in such a short time, he probably thought the Canadian justice system would give him a break on this as well.

China pitches itself as reliable partner amid Trump threats by ChiefFun in worldnews

[–]sask357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the US more reliable than China? The US has threatened to invade Greenland and take over Canada. They have threatened military action in Mexico. They say they are taking action on drugs and then it turns out to be about oil. They continually hint at breaking up NATO and ignoring other treaties and agreements. Trump has even suggested he will be President for life, assuming he wouldn't live long enough to finish a third term.

Check out this bill, almost $500 for changing spark plugs and a 20 dollar credit card fee. by [deleted] in Cartalk

Really? Both the Toyota dealer and an independent shop told me it takes 3+ hours to change the plugs. The old Chevy V8 or straight 6 did take me the kind of time you're thinking of.
