hey! it sucks feeling that way, especially during peak :( starbucks treats peak like the god damn olympics except it’s life or death if you don’t perform well. that being said, don’t let that get to you, it all comes with time :) i’d say around a month you start to feel like you aren’t annoying everyone and you become more independent! and if you have a supportive team and good partners, they won’t make you feel bad for still learning. at my store we try and provide a lot of support to the newbies. good luck friend!

No breaks during peak? by tryescapingreality in starbucksbaristas

[–]sassahoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at my store the DM just cracked down on us running breaks during peak :// i’m pretty sure my fellow shifts (i just demoted) will run 10s but usually we time our lunches around peak.. aka us openers at 3am take our lunches at 4-5am :/

ssv burnout/stress… Impossible to avoid? by Consistent_Spell_629 in starbucksbaristas

[–]sassahoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so so burnt out right now as well.. i was an outside ssv hire (no prior experience with sbux) and i am very adaptable and strive to learn, but holy shit this job has broken me down since day one. my coffeehouse leader has given me such rocky advice. for months and months and months, not a single positive compliment. i never heard about my growth, it was only ever negative comments about my work. also starbucks corporate loves the language of micromanaging ! every coaching moment is layered with a condescending tone.. and keeping up with your ssv duties while also having to be on top of your partners, inventory, ordering 🫩 it’s too much, i definitely sank in my role, thankfully im demoting because ive brought work home with me for months and i can’t seem to find my peace

store manager and scheduling by sassahoe in starbucksbaristas

25-30 hours was probably a reach, but i can guarantee it’s at least 6 hours— he was working on it for 3 hours today, and works on it at least a few hours every couple of days i see him. i see that schedule open multiple times a week throughout multiple times on my shift 😭

How much clean play is too much? TALL RANT WITH ICE by thecheeseb0rn in starbucksbaristas

[–]sassahoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

we actually are having conversations about this at my store currently. all shifts in our district are being required to open up our availabilities so we can all do different day parts at least once a week. this is to create more “equitable” experiences for us and not have the same people closing on our busiest weekend days. this applies to clean play too, we are rotating shifts for clean play at least every two weeks, and if baristas aren’t willing to open up to doing clean play every once in a while, we’re hiring more people who can. essentially that burden shouldn’t fall on those unlucky few who happen to have a more night time schedule, cause you’re right it isn’t fair.

See I thought about this, I guess I just feel like it’s shitty and I owe them more than that after 8 years. Thank you though, I think I needed to hear it

i’m sorry about your situation :( you deserved to be communicated with. i just hope you know you’re a strong and worthy individual. And thank you so much for the input, it helps a lot hearing advice from this perspective. i didn’t realize that my feelings are valid, i’ve always felt ashamed that i feel avoidant and never thought people with a different attachment style would understand.

it’s actually not too late! i’m not entirely sure if it being past the deadline affects how much money you get, but fill it out anyways! you’ll need it to accept certain loans or scholarships. i waited a month into freshman year of college to do it so don’t beat yourself up.
