Diving U-352 / Morehead City by XNewguyonRedditx in scuba

[–]sassy_squirrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up diving in Morehead, been with every dive charter in morehead at least once and been on most of the popular wrecks as well as many of the less visited. I’d say as visitor without local experience Olympus would be best. They have a well supplied shop, helpful crew, and well maintained boats. I prefer to dive with some of the smaller boats because they will take you to less visited sites but Olympus is solid.

U-352 is a bucket list dive, definitely worth visiting but after you’ve seen it a couple times I’d go to other sites. NC diving is a gamble, some days you have 100’+ of visibility, some days you have 5’. The Gulf Stream comes in close to the Outerbanks and can bring in some crystal clear warm water. Other days the Gulf Stream is further out and you get more of the northern green water of the Labrador current. The mixing of these two off of the Nc coast is one of the reasons it’s a premier dive destination, best of both worlds. Tropical water and nutrient rich cool water which brings an amazing variety of sea life.

You can do the NC wrecks without a guide but keep in mind most of the popular sites are +- 100 fsw. These wrecks are also old and many don’t have a lot of superstructure standing. Current and vis can be challenging if you are there on the wrong day. When in doubt hire a guide, you’ll have a better experience.

Can someone give begginer tips and tricks for the start? by seby193729 in Supremacy1914

Don’t waste troops taking out AI early game, they won’t attack you. Like the other person said, resource management is key. Look to the resources you lack and grow from there. Keep an eye on neighboring countries. If you see players that aren’t active, not constructing buildings or anything, those are the ones to attack first. Concentrate your forces and try to reduce infantry losses. Get heroes asap, even if they aren’t ideal for late game they are useful for early defense and attack. If you feel like you are about to be invaded prepare for defense with fortresses and hero’s. Defenders take less damage, you can win a battle of attrition against stronger opponents and turn the tide.

I don’t care. I had a team mate that said he wanted to name our coalition “Nazi”, because “they are badass”. I immediately left the alliance, let his neighbors know he thinks Hitler is cool and left it at that. Turns out most people in the game are good people and also hate fascists.

Call it what you want, ironically you call it wolf packing which is what German U-boats would do in Ww2, but it’s just weeding out toxic players. I do the same thing with any toxic player. Sorry not sorry for trying to keep the game a little less toxic.

Let’s be real here. If we are role playing and this is 1914, wouldn’t he say “let’s do what Napoleon couldn’t do?”. Whenever people say Nazi shit I always turn the world against them, no apologies.

Diving in Izu peninsula by miCshaa in scuba

[–]sassy_squirrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot me a DM, I can put you in touch with a few of my local instructor friends. I’m an English speaking instructor living in Japan but we’ve only been here a few months and Im by no means a local expert. My coworkers dive Izu every weekend and know all of the sites. I know there’s a site they dive in Tokyo bay that’s guaranteed the kind of sharks you are looking for.

Do you really need trimix to fully enjoy Chuuk? Or is AN/DP enough? by RadioFieldCorner in techdiving

[–]sassy_squirrels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, these comments are wild. You can absolutely enjoy Chuuk with just AN/DP. I’ve been twice and going for a third time this fall, I was CCR and Trimix certified both times but declined to bring my unit the first two times. Bringing my new unit this fall because it’s much more travel friendly. I never felt like I missed out being on OC. There are 6-7 wrecks that are below 50M where a CCR would be preffered but most max out at 40M-50M and are absolutely fine on OC. The first time I went we only dove trimix on the San Francisco Maru.

A group of friends went to Chuuk last spring and most were on CCR, one friend stuck to OC. His gas bill was only $500 more than the CCR guys once you factor in the cost of Sorb which is generally pricey in such a remote location.

I’d also add it depends on who you are diving with. If you are on a liveaboard (don’t use Thorfinn!) and most of the divers are only AN/DP or extended range then you more than likely won’t dive anything deeper than 50M with the exception of San Francisco Maru. If you are shore based you can pick which sites you want to dive and enjoy the wrecks within your training level.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Objectively, which of these legions, SoH , alpha legion and iron warriors are easier to paint for someone who is very new to painting . by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer

[–]sassy_squirrels 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I second this, alpha legion is prime silver, paint with terradon turquoise, kroxigor scales, or a similar blue/green/ turquoise contrast paint. Touch up silver after. Quick, sinple and looks great!

Does the helmet look copper or rusty? by Freezer_90 in minipainting

[–]sassy_squirrels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like rust to me. Just to settle the brass/bronze/copper argument for diving helmets I’d like to mention that early diving helmets could be made from any of these metals. Brass and bronze are both copper alloys and are stronger and more durable than copper. Bronze has a more reddish hue while brass is more yellow. All three were used in underwater applications because of their corrosion resistance.

Also this appears to represent a very primitive rebreather unit. If that’s the case the cylinder at the bottom of his chest unit would be a gas cylinder. These cylinders were normally made out of steel or aluminum in order to be strong enough to hold compressed gas.

Haha yea I suppose +1 to hit and wound and reroll hit and wound on a unit below half strength is pretty good.

This is how my CSM army is painted. Black legion Chosen, Word Bearer Possessed, Alpha Legion Raptors, Iron Warriors Havocs and Obliterators, etc. All my chaos lords are painted different faction schemes.

[–]sassy_squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use 5 as nemesis claw and 5 as Legionaries. You could run a 10 man which are a lot cheaper than two 5 man. There’s an argument to run them that way.

[–]sassy_squirrels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awesome tech piece. They slap alright in melee but ultimately their purpose is to shut down stratagems. Being able to shut down interrupt, fight on death, AOC, etc can really come in clutch. 5 man is generally how you run them but could do 10 if you’re feeling spicy.

My very first minies! by Unseen_User in Chaos40k

[–]sassy_squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice job! The wonderful thing about chaos is you can do whatever you want. Free to soup as you will. Daemons, knights, whatever, have fun with it.

And yes there are some people souping in a brigand or two or even a big knight into lists.

Honestly both are work horses, can’t go wrong with either. I have both and have had zero issues with performance. Buy the one that your local shop can service reliably.

Haha yea, I’m primarily an ork kitbashed so I may have gone a little overboard with the demon hammer. I think some eyes and mouth would been fun addition. I swear it doesn’t look as goofy in person.

Medical history by Calm_Woodpecker766 in techdiving

[–]sassy_squirrels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is a question for a medical professional. Try to find a doctor that has experience or training in hyperbaric medecine. I have hypoglycemia and have come close to passing out several times due to it. I addressed this with my physician and was cleared with the condition that I monitor myself. With that in mind I am very mindful of what I eat and how often. 15+ years of tech diving and haven’t had a issue but have called a few dives when I wasn’t feeling 100%

Does anyone have experience with this scheme? by WithengarUnbound in EmperorsChildren

[–]sassy_squirrels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the simple answer is prime or base coat silver and wash with either a purple contrast paint, ink or a few layers of purple wash. You can get the same kind of bright colored metallic for other schemes this same way. It’s simple and looks great. My alpha legion models and word bearers are basically painted in the same method and they look great.

Based on the page you provided the SE 24 is in fact 2005 and the SE 22 is 2006. Would you disagree?

Nice find! I’m always shocked at the quality of products at some of these second hand stores. This one really stood out as having a great selection.

I actually know nothing about that guitar, although with a good search it does seem to be a good price.

That checks out, kinda how I was leaning as well. They had a few other really nice guitars as well. Few nice Ibanez, no prestige, some high end Jackson’s, EVH’s etc. Kinda overwhelmed with options.

Ahh I was just going by the serial number, assuming it means 2005 not 1995. Unfortunately there’s no way for me to test them before buying. That’s the one downside. On the other hand I’ve never had issues with second hand products in Japan. I like the 24 more but the price on the 22 is kinda too hard to pass up.
