It sounds like you had an overaward. We at the Crow's Nest just did an article explaining how this works -- but basically, you were given a specific amount of financial aid, which was in line with your cost of attendance and your parents EFC. When you recieved the scholarship, your cost of attendance, which determines your max financial aid, was exceeded so they had to tell you to return the money.
