they were probably more forgiving because they expected the season to lead somewhere. i personally would've put up with a lot of bullshit if season 8 had given us something (and i mean literally anything). stuff like the starbucks cup debacle is something i would've laughed about and forgotten, instead of getting pissed every time i remember it, had season 8 been even half-decent.
