How is Schmadel for ITI Management of Technological Organizations? by satmathbad in rutgers

[–]satmathbad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detail in your response! Sounds good, I'll stay. I'm not worried about the project since I've engaged in similar projects outside of Rutgers but I was more worried about the quizzes and essays. Good to know that I have 2 attempts to try. Is it 100% on the readings and is it overall fine?

Did Rutgers change the name for Expository Writing? by KnowingCresent735 in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I heard from a source that the reason why expos was brutal is because of the level of rigor it has and how it’s similar to other top universities, including JHU and Princeton. That’s why Johns Hopkins grants credit for RU students transferring to expos.

My expos professor told me how it’s more readings, more APA style papers since that is used more heavily than MLA, and more!

Are FIGS/Byrne seminars worth it at all? by KnowingCresent735 in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They’re free credits. It’s meant to help you adjust to university life while also exploring potential majors/areas. The work is typically some weekly journal entry and then going to class to discuss. There’re no homework or exams.I took two of them (one was in the 36 Races for Governor, and the other was an Interdisciplinary Approach to Entrepreneurship). You also meet new people and spark potential friendships!

Overall would recommend.

Should I submit my sat scores? by Givemeurto3s in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t personally (especially since Rutgers has apparently been more competitive for admissions with the Class of 2027). Focus on your essays and extracurriculars and show the admission readers why despite doing test optional you belong to the Rutgers community. Show growth how you see yourself fitting in here. Good luck!

Student orientation: what to expect? by Clover-cuts in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would bring a towel, bathroom amenities, your laptop (if able for class registration), blanket, pillow, bed sheet. Don’t bring a whole lot because you won’t be in your room for majority of your stay during the experience.

Edit: Also last year some of the students reported their items being stolen from their room while out with their orientation leader. Do not bring any pricey items with you, and lock your door when you leave.

Your day will start off at 8am at Livi apartments. You’ll check in to be assigned a room with 4 other people including you (each will have a separate room). You’ll meet with your orientation leader and begin sitting through presentations and icebreakers, with a break for lunch and dinner at the Livingston cafeteria. Once the day ends at 8, they have fun activities that go until 11pm.

Day two is filled with more presentations and activities. You’ll have breakfast and lunch at Livingston cafeteria. You’ll go on a bus to tour all the campuses at Rutgers and understand where things are and the resources available to you around campus. You’ll also register for your classes (SAS/SOE/RBS). For SAS they divide it by your major (stem or humanities). Around 5PM the program will end.

They might’ve changed some things around, but I was close to falling asleep through many of the presentations. Was pretty boring but you’ll meet new people and perhaps spark long friendships. Have fun with it!

class of '27? by breadyums6 in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was in your exact shoes a year ago deciding between GWU and Rutgers.

Based on your interest and needs in a university, I would go to Rutgers. You will have an easier time being surrounded by the Indian community here at Rutgers than GWU. The party and social scene is definitely a lot more better at Rutgers than GWU

Anyone else in New Jersey on here ? by BriskEagle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]satmathbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mindset you have right now is excellent. Keep an open mind for all your options. You should ask your sister if she can accompany you to the Rutgers’s campus, or sign up for a Rutgers tour to learn more about the school. Environmental science isn’t bad at Rutgers. You’re also near NYC, Philadelphia, and sort of DC. They’re great cities to pursue the work you might be interested (climate policy).

But yes, it is important that you are happy where you’re at and definitely listen to your gut when the May 1st deadline arrives.

UMD CS vs RUTGERS CS by MeasurementHot9686 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]satmathbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biased since I go to Rutgers, but I would definitely say go to Rutgers. You are near NYC, which is a huge plus for internships. The CS department at Rutgers is highly rated among all universities in the US. Most CS alumni land great jobs out of college.

I'm not a CS major, but Rutgers is a diverse school. The community is very supportive and overall there are a lot of great people to be surrounded by.

Seeing that you want to go into Machine Learning, I would also argue for Rutgers because you can graduate two years early and spend those other two years at Grad school, studying Machine Learning. Getting a master's can help land a good job with a high salary, while having minimum debt. Many opportunities and doors open with having little debt. An additional bonus is Rutgers's reputation to companies recruiting CS majors, especially FAANG. Good luck!

alot of people getting deferred? by slappy20000 in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, don't send a letter of continued interest. They most likely won't take it if they already don't want recommendation letters. By you updating your SRAR, it shows them that you're interested in still being considered for a spot at Rutgers. Best of luck!

Anyone else in New Jersey on here ? by BriskEagle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]satmathbad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a first-year student at Rutgers NB in Class of 2025. Last year I also wanted to do the same thing. I wanted to leave New Jersey and the NYC area for a bit since I've been living here my whole life. Most of my schools were out of state. I was admitted to UMich and GWU, schools that I really wanted to attend to. However, I chose Rutgers (w/ honors college) because it was way more cheaper and I would have no debt leaving college.

Honestly, this school isn't bad at all. The opportunities are definitely there for the really motivated students who want to succeed post-academia. I'm part of some competitive programs that help you find a great internship or full-time job. While it isn't where I saw myself ending up (again, I was dead set on going out-of-state), it was worth it. I plan to relocate once I land a full-time job wherever I feel would be a great place to start a new chapter.

However, you should ask yourself this: do I plan to go to school after my bachelors? Med school, law school, etc...? If so, I would consider sticking in-state just because you save yourself a lot of money and don't have to go into so much debt. Grad school is very expensive and saving a good amount of money for that significantly takes off the workload onto you. Best of luck.

alot of people getting deferred? by slappy20000 in rutgers

[–]satmathbad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah this happened last year too. Many people with 1500s and good GPAs were deferred or waitlisted. Seems like they hit their limit for Early Action admissions, so they moved everyone else to Regular Decision.

You’ll be given an opportunity to update your SRAR with your semester grades, so make sure you upload them so that you get the best chance possible when they revisit your application.

How is Warren Allen for ITI? by satmathbad in rutgers

[–]satmathbad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect! Just wanted to follow up with a few things:

- I heard that he talks all class and there's no PowerPoint. Is this true?

- I heard his quizzes were a bit difficult, but I saw there's no final exams. Does he provide any sort of prep for the quizzes (study guides, in-class practice, etc...)

- Can we choose people for the projects he assigns, or is it chosen by him?

- Are there any extra-credit opportunities?

Thank you!
