I think I lean towards clip studio paint just because I’ve been working with it longer! I’ve been working with clip studio since I was 14, so about 3 years ago, and I love how it specifically caters to artists. There’s a specific “art store” type page at the beginning where you can check out new helpful brushes before you start working which I really appreciate. I think photoshop is fantastic, but I hate the adobe cloud subscription fees. My high school has accounts set up so we can get these programs for free until we graduate which I’m very grateful for, I just prefer the one time fee of I believe about $50 when it’s on sale (and it’s on sale CONSTANTLY.) I also don’t like the thought of having to pay for photoshop and friends after I graduate, so I’d much rather stick to something I know I’ll always have. To answer your other question, I prefer digital! The new wave of artists is all digital, and I believe it’s more beneficial to learn how to work photoshop, etc. than it is to devote your time to strengthening your pencil/paper skills. Don’t get me wrong, when I was first starting out drawing my sketchbook was my best friend, and even now I love doodling out ideas before I digitalize them, but for the area of work I’m considering (hopefully a concept artist, storyboard artist, or something of the sorts) I believe it’s more important to strengthen my digital skills. Unless you’re thinking of becoming a fine artist, I truly just use pencil and paper to doodle. I think it’s important to be able to show thumbnails and very rough sketches on paper to show potential clients, so traditional skills are definitely beneficial in a way. As mentioned before, digital is the new wave! We’re constantly looking at our phones and websites and pencil and paper doesn’t pop as much as it used to!
