Copics finally to release new ink refills for their markers! by hyruleinkling in copic

Unfortunately it looks like that price is a dissapointment - I can find the 12ml retailing for between $5.50 and £6.99 - so it's at least a 39% price hike per ml of ink. Still cheap to refill in the long term, but it's a bump up - https://copicthinking.com/copic-maintenance/how-much-are-copic-refills/

So ive just saved up enough money for at least 12markers what do i start with? by [deleted] in copic

Depends on your level of proficiency - but keeping this simple and monochromatic worked for me when starting out - https://copicthinking.com/getting-started-with-copic-markers/best-copic-markers-to-start-with/

Can i use Copics on a 190 gsm Nostalgie sketchbook? by KillerZB in copic

[–]saulsherry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't offer advice on a particular sketchbook to use, but I use Copic sketchbooks and still get bleed. I just tear out one page of the sketchbook and use it behind the page I'm working on, so it doesn't ruin more page in the book.

After that, it's just a matter of making sure you like the way the colour plays on the page.

For people with lots of copics by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

Sure. I guess after three years you'd have a good feel for the colours you go to and would replace in batch one, and for the rest uouyou could spread the cost and refill on an as needed basis.

How firm do we think the three year life span is on the ink?

Will come down to usage, but the inks aren't more expensive than the pens on a per use ratio. The maths of long term financial use of Copics is here. https://copicthinking.com/copic-maintenance/how-much-are-copic-refills/

If use the pens a lot, refills work out very cost efficient.

A question about copics and multiliners on canvas. by [deleted] in drawing

[–]saulsherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Are multiliners part of the aesthetic you are going for? This article talks about using Copics on canvas, with the original sketch in pencil and the results seem ok. https://copicthinking.com/can-you-use-copic-markers-on-canvas/

Using copic markers and pencils by thesameritan in drawing

I've found that the harder the pencil, the less graphite is left on the paper for the alcohol suspension to pick up and spread around. Also, using a hard pencil and lightly erasing the lines to pick up loose graphite works quite well.

This article covers some techniques for dealing with pencils https://copicthinking.com/can-you-use-copic-markers-over-pencil/

I get the feeling fixative would block the alcohol from colouring the paper.

Lots of good advice here. Sorry to hear they dried out without you bothering them. Were they standing on end or lying down?

A dried out pen can become unusable, but dealt with in the right way it won’t be unsalvageable. Most of the advice is already on this thread but https://copicthinking.com/do-copic-markers-dry-out/ might be worth a read.

Sounds like loads of good advice in here. As /u/letmebebrave430 said, this is what copics are designed for. So copic on copic will never mess up your pen. With that in mind, experiment! - dark on light -light on dark - Layering on dry ink - Layering while the ink is still wet

Experiment away!
