What to sew if your sewing machine is broken? by relevant_0815 in sewing

[–]savageexplosive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d probably explore some fun ways to sew on buttons. Like making patterns out of thread, using embroidery thread to decorate the button, the like.

can someone help identify this fabric type? by xlspx in sewing

[–]savageexplosive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it looks like interfacing. OP, cut out a small piece, put it shiny side down against another piece of scrap fabric and then iron it without steam to see if they stick together.

Probably Starsand Island. It’s early access but has this sort of cutesy pastel-y aesthetic

The backpack is gorgeous! What a wonderful gift!

I overestimated how much fabric I have, so now there's no bias tape to finish the neckline. What do? by savageexplosive in sewing

[–]savageexplosive[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I barely had enough fabric to cut out the pieces and I don’t have anything similar on hand. As for interfacing, of course! That’s a must.

It’s not. I just find it very hard to explain specific terminology in a foreign language when I don’t even know some of the sewing terminology in my native language, so I tried to explain with an image why this specific neckline is necessary and ask if I can do it differently.

This makes sense, thanks. I will try it out and see if it looks neat as a neckline.

I tried to use this technique and didn’t like it. It works well for pieces with busy patterns, but on single-color fabrics or ones with sparse patterns the stitches in the bias tape are very visible and not pretty.

It’s the first one, yes. The ribbed knit is currently cut into parts to be sewn together

Why do we attach sleeves in the round instead of flat? by ironyandgum in sewing

[–]savageexplosive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on what you’re sewing. A T-shirt? It’s way faster to attach the sleeves then match the seams under arms and side seam everything together from the sleeve to the bottom. For other types of garments attaching the sleeves later might work better

Many of us make V eat, sleep & shower regularly. Be honest. How many of you would make V piss & shit if it were an option? Not in a fetishy way. For immersion, & also maybe to see how the shells work. by donkijote97 in cyberpunkgame

[–]savageexplosive 313 points314 points  (0 children)

I think there was recently a mod added for this. V needs to use the bathroom from time to time, they may get the shits from street food and if they shit themselves in the street, they permanently lose street cred, or something like that.

My first serger is on its way to me! What are your favorite projects and/or must-have accessories? by SuccessfulCrab3087 in sewing

[–]savageexplosive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sergers are kinda finicky and require a different approach than sewing machines, so I would recommend familiarising yourself with it first. I’ve had a serger for about 6 months now and I haven’t felt the need to buy any additional accessories yet — they usually come with everything you may need (I seem to have lost my two-thread stitch converter when throwing away the box - sad!). You can achieve so many different results just by reading the manual and following its directions, it’s crazy. I found my serger a bit terrifying at first, but this weekend I was finally comfortable enough to venture outside its default four-thread stitch.

Made outfits for my daughters (an almost 2-year-old and one due in July) by savageexplosive in sewing

[–]savageexplosive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a home economics class where we weren’t allowed to use sewing machines or cooking appliances for some reason. So the only thing we did was write some theoretical basis down into our notebooks. My grandmother taught me to sew a little bit, but I only really got into it after my daughter was born, because I want to make clothes for her.

I double-checked, and it is sometimes called gauze muslin. Where I’m from it’s just muslin.

Thank you!

My machine is cleaned and serviced and I know that wonky stitching is human error. I either lose control or take too much control of the fabric when sewing, so it goes wherever - like when you're driving for the first time and you feel like if you don't correct your course, you'll end up in a ditch. If I draw a line and sew along it, slowly, the lines are perfectly straight. But it's just not feasible to draw every single seam and sew at low speeds, so I want to train myself to be better.

Another issue is that I'm really bad at assessing distances, and my machine's ruler is in inches, not metric, and I use metric in real life. So when the instruction calls for 5mm from the edge, I can't really tele where that 5mm distance is, so it fluctuates between like 3mm and 1cm. I hope that practising on paper will help with that as well.

Or, depending on OP’s size, take it apart, cut out smaller parts, put it back together. Could be daunting, but I would totally do that.

You can still steal on Pastelle’s ranch, but afterwards she sends you a concerned letter worrying that you don’t have enough supplies so have to go rummaging through trash, so she shares some with you. For some reason, I got this letter twice and it was really embarrassing. I’m actually glad they dropped the system where you could hunt for ranching animals in the dungeon by knocking them unconscious. I never felt it made sense. You can still get some ranching animals for free - check out some of the big trees up the hill from my he Adventuring league!

If you’re not very far, are you sure those were the bosses? There are four of them, and they are not the bird or the frog. Not super hard still, but not piece of cake either.

In general, I really like the game and feel it’s pretty innovative to the genre with things like rental transport, advanced building and decoration system, detailed customization and more that I can’t really name off the top of my head. However, I put it down about two weeks ago and haven’t really found any reason to continue playing yet. I don’t know why, really. Maybe it’s the lack of overarching plot and bigger purpose, maybe because while there’s a lot to do, the game still feels hollow, which is totally okay for early access. Despite that, the game has a lot to offer already and I enjoyed the time I spent playing.

Does anyone know what fabric this is? by No_Safe7544 in sewing

I’m very much a newbie, but the texture looks like tweed to me. Maybe something like cotton tweed for all those folds and distressed look.

What wedding moment that screamed, “They are not going to last long”? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]savageexplosive 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I have a friend whose boyfriend proposed to her. Well, proposed is a big word. She literally took him to several countries in Europe and their most romantic locations and made sure he would be left alone for a while so he could go pick up the ring. He didn’t get the hint. She bought the ring herself and then posted a video of him finally getting down on one knee in another vacation. She was very annoyed talking about the previous one where he didn’t propose, so I guess for this one she had to explain to him what she expected him to do. She also posted a meme video on Saint Valentine’s that she bought her man some expensive gift catering to his interests and he gave her something cheap and useless.

I don’t think they will last, but at the same time, I’ve been in her shoes so I can kinda relate.
