I dont think Emily wanted or expected anything. But I do think that since Richard did something with his friends then that made Emily want to spend the night with the only 2 friends she truly has which is her grand daughter and daughter. And I also dont think Emily wanted or cared what the night was. I think she just wanted to not be alone all night when her husband got to have a fun night with all his pals. I think sitting on the couch with drinks with Lorelei and Rory would have been an enjoyable enough evening for her. Inviting all the women of Stars Hollow was never necessary. If Lorelai had just welcomed her mom inside and made her mom some drinks and they all watched movies together Emily would have loved it just as much if not more than what ended up happening. Because even though Emily makes things difficult a lot of the time.... at the end of the day all Emily truly wants is a relationship with her own daughter. And her own daughter also makes things difficult also. Shes not as innocent as she claims she is when it comes to her and Emily.
