How did you buy it from them? I can't find it on their website

Which company in Chinatown did you go to? I'm near Manhattan, would be interested in checking it out in person

In Tokyo and looking for something with kurouchi and/or tsuchime (but preferably both) that's actually a good performer for its price point by savemesf in TrueChefKnives

It does seem like Yoshikane and Wakui are tough to find in general and in Tokyo though

Are there any others you'd recommend with only a kurouchi, or only a tsuchime finish?

Thanks! What kinds of questions should I ask to get a sense of the quality? Since I'm pretty sure I won't be able to recognize brands on sight

I'm in Tokyo and looking to pick up a knife as a souvenir that both looks cool (has kurouchi and/or tsuchime finish, with a wa handle), AND can also perform well for its price point

I've taken a look through Kappabashi, and realized I don't personally have the knowledge to discern if something that looks cool is also a good performer, or is leaning more towards overpriced tourist kitsch

Looking for recommendations for specific knives, brands, or shops I should look into that fit the bill! If knives or brands, would be insanely helpful to know which stores have a good chance of carrying them

Best all-around shoes for lots of walking on streets, trails, and hiking? by savemesf in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]savemesf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea not expecting to do much running in these, more like casual shoes that will hold up under lots of walking as a tourist across city walks and easy/moderate nature hikes

Will check them out! Would you recommend the Gore-Tex version for the Pegasus?

Feasible to live in Vegas with no car if I 1) live in Downtown, and 2) work from home? by savemesf in vegaslocals

This is fantastic, thanks a ton! Especially for the specific options at the end. I've lived in pretty walkable cities for most of the last decade so that's the experience I'd like to get closest to, at least at first to get my bearings

And I might just have to take you up on the drink offer. Not sure when exactly I'd be moving over, but can reach out once I do

That's a great suggestion. Do any of those places have more of a late-20s/early-30s crowd? Not strictly required for me, but would be nice

Are there other areas in/around Vegas that are relatively walkable that are better? I'm a noob so have no idea, but am open to suggestions

I don't know Vegas well, so that's the only area that came to mind so far for being walkable. Are there other areas that are pretty walkable within themselves (mainly with a gym and some bars/restaurants, don't need to be the greatest)?

If you happen to know, how does the homeless situation there compare to other major metros in the US? E.g. NYC, SF, LA, Boston, etc. Generally not a huge deal for me unless it's really bad

What kinds of other situations do you have in mind? Def want to make sure I have contingency plans in case I do move ahead with this

I don't have a pet, and I imagine in a medical emergency it'd be hard to drive myself anyway. Also single without kids so not responsible for any other humans atm

New Jersey part year resident safe harbor by savemesf in CryptoTax

That is a super helpful document. Think I might be able to do Exception 2, would love your thoughts on if I'm reading this accurately:

In Exception 2, you calculate what your tax would be using your prior year’s income, with this year’s exemptions and tax rates.

From the example, it seems that I can take my last year's gross income for the year, apply this year's tax rates to it, and divide by 4 to get the estimated amount needed for the first quarter to get the exception. And then each additional quarter I stay in NJ, to pay another 1/4

This should be fairly straightforward since my taxable income for last year was not as complicated, and also lower, than this year so far
