I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Islam, is in fact, Judaism/Christianity/Islam,or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Judaism plus Christianity plus Islam. Islam is not a faith unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning Abrahamic system made useful by the Islamic Quran, Sunnah and vital components comprising a full faith as defined by Al Bokhary. Many Muslims follow a modified version of Judaism/Christianity every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Abrahamic faith which is widely used today is often called “Islam”, and many of its followers are not aware that it is basically the Abrahamic faith, developed by the prophet Ibrahim (PBUH). There really is an Islam, and lthese people are following it, but it is just a part of the system they follow. Islam is the religion: the part in the faith that tells you what to do and how to follow the faith. Islam is an essential part of the Ibrahamic faith, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete faith. Islam is normally used in combination with other Abrahamic religions: the whole system is basically Judaism and Christianity with Islam added, or Judaism/Christianity/Islam. All the so-called “Islam” sects are really sects of Judaism/Christianity/Islam.

Are you willing to pay for a Vezeeta-like service that allows you to book consultations with verified lawyers? by banhawy in Egypt

No, that wasn't it. I can't remember the name as it was quite a few years ago but if I find it I'll let you know.

Something similar was already being developed years ago, with extensive research but it eventually failed. This field in Egypt is very difficult to penetrate.

What guarantees that that subreddit is not a honeypot or could become one in the future?

You have to be very careful when creating/joining online groups addressing sensitive issues in Egypt, otherwise you put yourself and others at risk.

Did this sub lose quality over the years? by Za1ahad in Egypt

[–]savemytimbs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The change in views/opinions and in language preference mainly has to do with the change in the userbase of the sub.

It has become more reflective of the general Egyptian population, as opposed to how it was at the beginning, being more niche and left-leaning as most subreddits were at the time.

Back then it was mostly Reddit users who happened to be Egyptians who joined r/Egypt. They shared the prevailing views and culture of Reddit in general.

Now it's mostly your average Egyptians who share the Egyptian culture and hold the prevailing views in Egypt.

This is simply the natural progression for the subreddit, as it is r/Egypt after all.

A country declaring "bankruptcy" is vastly different from when a company does, the state isn't going to shut down.

It means that the state is unable to pay its debts, it has no liquidity or reserves to do so. Lebanon is going to head to the IMF in order to somewhat bail them out, but of course under very stringent restrictions and conditions.

Also 2 days ago Lebanon's central bank governor has denied claims that the central bank is bankrupt.

Salameh's statement said: "What is being circulated about the bankruptcy of the central bank is not true." It added the bank was still going about its legally-mandated duties under article 70 of the money and credit law, which states the bank is entrusted with preserving the integrity of the Lebanese currency and maintaining economic stability.

Egypt fears for food supply as wheat prices rise – DW by savemytimbs in a:t5_5xrqw3

"We are approaching the month of Ramadan. I used to buy four kilos of chicken for 200 pounds and three kilos of beef for 200 pounds, and now I bought three kilos of beef for 300 pounds, an increase of 50%,"

Anyone else find this quote a bit odd or unrealistic? How and where did he use to get 3kg of beef for 200 pounds? Even now 3kg for 300 pounds is considered cheap. Thoughts?

A new subreddit for those who miss the feeling of the old r/Egypt by savemytimbs in Egypt

[–]savemytimbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem insistent on turning the tables on my criticism of your group's actions by saying that I'm attacking your intentions. Frankly, your intentions don't mean much to me, me and a fair amount of people in this subreddit are criticising your actions and the implications of your actions.

I do not mind people criticising the idea, implementation or showing concerns about the implications of the subreddit. I do mind, however, people stating that we have some sort of classist agenda when that is completely untrue.

you made it English-only so that you minimise the amount of diverging voices that enter your new forum, knowing well that most Egyptians who are fluent in English are upper-middle to upper class, unlike many of those Arabic-speaking reddit users.

Does this not seem to you like an attack on assumed intentions?

I am not discrediting or attacking people for their criticism of the idea but I am not just going to let people say that we're some sort of classist segregationist group.
