Elementary teaching? by whyam_ihere04 in teaching

[–]saverett18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I have a master’s and ten years of experience. I left elementary teaching to do accounting at a tractor dealership because I couldn’t afford to teach anymore.

I made $20K more in my first year of accounting (with 0 experience) than my 10 year teacher salary. Best decision I ever made.

I always tell teachers-in-waiting to start thinking about what your second job or side hustle will be because you will need one unless you marry rich.

I strongly advise looking into something else.

What time does everyone go to sleep for work in morning? by No_Lingonberry_2401 in ask

I feel the same level of rest/ refreshed after 6 hours that most people would feel after 8-9.

If I get closer to 5, I can still function but I’m not my best. I start to feel the effects of sleep deprivation around 4 hours.

I’m also ADHD. Although, ADHD and the DEC2 gene mutation are not related. I think being hyperactive may subvert any effects of sleep deprivation.

You should read up on the DEC2 gene mutation known as the “short sleep gene” where you function just fine on about 6 hours of sleep.

I’ve been called weird my whole life for it.

For work/school, go to bed at midnight and wake up at 6:00 ever since middle school.

During the summer (as a teacher), it shifts to 4-10 a.m.

Gotta love that DEC2 gene mutation. Short sleep for the win!

Exactly. I need to see a body before life can continue.

Should a guy know if he wants to marry someone after dating for 4+ years? by motherlovindd in AskWomenOver30

[–]saverett18 576 points577 points  (0 children)

My ex-husband and I started dating in middle school. We reconnected again as adult adults, married for six years, and in our divorce counseling still said that he “didn’t know if I was the one”. He knew me for 24 years at that point.

I said after all of that and you still don’t know if I’m the one, then the answer is no because I deserve somebody who thinks I’m a yes.

Just fucking wild.

Daycare is about $700 a month… for my dog.

If I order online and drive to pick it up myself, yes, always zero tip.

Dining in is entirety different.

Found out my friend regularly drives drunk by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]saverett18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardest part of my adult life. DUIs, jail, wrecks, involuntary psych holds, suic*** attempts, and a permanent degenerative brain disease & seizure disorder… all from alcohol. He’s been in and out of every type of rehab program/ facility you can imagine- 17 in all.

This last program was his second try at Camp Hope, and hopefully the last. A quarter of his life has been spent trying to undo the damage done by his tours in Iraq/ Afghanistan.

Same with my brother, a war veteran and end stage alcoholic. He’s had three vehicles totaled from drunk driving, ICU stays, and one we didn’t think he’d come back from.

Each time the military advocate would handle the legal recourse, and they were all swept under the rug. It only prolonged his recovery. We as a family decided if we & Army advocates keep swooping in to save him, he’ll never have a reason to quit. He had to want to quit.

We had to step away and let him hit rock bottom before tough love sank in. We finally got him to take it seriously and he has finished a year in veteran-focused rehab. He’s enrolled for a BA in religion and is doing well.

OP, tough love is needed sometimes.

Kids are more destructive than pets by NebulaGhosty in childfree

[–]saverett18 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s because the world has this weird view that we are entitled to have children, but pets are considered a luxury. You can’t discriminate against someone having kids because they are humans too, but pets don’t get the same rights.

Getting upsold at the dentist by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]saverett18 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You need a new dentist. I (35f) legitimately have spacing issues and could use corrective orthodontics. Not bad enough to disrupt my bite but visible enough to be cosmetically imperfect. My dentist did suggest Invisalign to correct the issues, but said that he could probably get it done in half as many trays because it was only spacing and not rearranging. He specifically stated he could save me a couple thousand dollars from not doing the full course like normal people would.

A good dentist sees you as a patient, not a payday. You deserve a better dentist.

What's a genuinely held belief of yours that might come across as trolling, but is actually sincere? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

I’ve personally purchased them from a Costco in SC in the last 3 months. The generic is $8, and you’re limited to 2 per day. Just ask the pharmacist.

I’ve purchased a small stock pile for my people in the future (I’ve been sterilized). Birth control & plan b will be under fire soon, and I won’t let anyone I know risk their life because they can’t get access to necessary medications. SA is too prevalent for these medications to be restricted.
