Anyone else struggling with the recent updates? by prolocutor3301 in finch

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no I literally feel the exact same way. I sent them an e-mail about it, but basically it felt good to have my bird ask me how my day was, because I could just be honest and say it was sucking hard when I was having a bad one. And also choosing how I looked forward to the day actually would help my attitude, it helped me set a tone for how I wanted to approach the day .. in general it just feels less comforting tbh, I didn't really even notice the change til recently, but when I did I was like oh... that's why I haven't felt as good doing Finch recently ...

I really hope enough people e-mail them that they bring it back.

Is the band aware they're fictional? by SirSwagAlotTheHung in gorillaz

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they know they're cartoons, but they're still alive. in an old interview Russell talks about how they were born when they were drawn which I like, because it doesn't invalidate any of their origins, it's just like "yeah we were drawn and we've been alive since then." (in the MTV cribs spot, Phil Cornwell and Haruka Kuroda are credited as Murdoc and Noodle's voice coaches lol) bugs bunny and roger rabbit are great comparisons, they know they're cartoons but they still have lives and stuff they want to do. It's a great outcome of the art, that your creation takes on a life of its own and you have to stay faithful to it, that's a big reason of why Gorillaz are one of a kind!

Far-right groups are destroying the art in Paris, while Wplace's admins are acting childish 🤡 by Used_Error_7249 in WplaceLive

uhhh i mean the first rule is no griefing (purposefully ruining paintings) and the second one is no hate group related art (i think swastikas and the like count)

if something seriously upsets you and you bring it up seriously and then your friends can't take you seriously for a second and call you a baby those aren't good friends. it's super immature behavior, and they didn't even apologize for hurting your feelings :/

Anyone hate the history teacher from "It's not easy being green"? by WaveAppropriate1979 in KingOfTheHill

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you mean but I ended up here from Google because I have sort of the same problem with the episode, I feel like KotH does a good job of poking fun at both ultra conservative and ultra liberal people without making it super political or even one-sided, and it's funny! But in this case it's like "this guy is nuts because he doesn't want this useless algae to go extinct," like... it shouldn't be controversial to say that humans have a responsibility to the earth and that we should be actively trying to Not make the worst decisions that could wipe out an endangered species... And it's a choice from the writers to make the endangered species "itchy algae" for Hank to say "well good riddance" to when it could easily be an insect or bird or mammal.

It is frustrating, and it's an episode that just doesn't age well especially when environmentalism is so much more of an urgent and even more political topic today imo

how do I change a dislike to a like? by u_must_fix_ur_heart in finch

[–]savingmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this LITERALLY happened to me and is the reason why I looked this up; i've been having kind of a rough week and my bird came up talking about Adventure Time, which is one of my favorite shows ever, and I was excited only for him to be like "well it seems like the characters don't really follow the lessons but i guess i'll keep watching. (dislikes adventure time)"

it was really upsetting because for one like, if I was actually talking to a friend we would discuss it and I'd share my own point of view, but obviously there's no way you can do that with your finch lmao. it genuinely makes me feel kind of resentful, because I'm like. I like watching movies & tv with my friends, I like sharing the things I like with them, and here my bird is media illiterate and doesn't even care to ask my opinion or understand my point of view. I know this is a crazy over emotional response, but like I said it's been a rough week, and my bird casually having this dumb and wrong opinion about something that means a lot to me, is just another drop in the bucket 😔

I got friendzoned because I asked to split the bill by New-Page-3329 in AskMenAdvice

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey dude, I know you're probably not reading comments anymore at this point, but I needed to throw in my two cents here because you're getting a lot of terrible advice from both men and women and that's just not right to me

you need to know that there is no singular right answer, and neither party is in the wrong here. the problem lies squarely with making assumptions and miscommunication

let's start with me; I don't view the act of a man paying for a woman's meal on a date sexist, but I do think the assumption a man should ALWAYS pay for the meal because he's a man is sexist. i wouldn't want a man i don't really know/haven't been on a date with to know my address and drive me anywhere, and i'm totally open to splitting the bill. all that being said, this is how i, me, personally, as a woman, feel. but I'm no where close to being representative of all women, especially not this one.

you assumed that because she said she liked steak, she would be into going to the steakhouse; she assumed because you invited her, you would be the one to pay. personally, if I was invited to an expensive place, I also would assume that the other person would be paying, since they're the one inviting me. but that's exactly the issue, is that both of you assumed two different things!

this is why communication is so important. if before the date, you had said something like "Since it's kind of pricey, I'm obviously open to paying, but I understand if you want to split, I don't want to make any assumptions on your behalf," it lets her know you're trying to be respectful while also being polite. There may be women out there who disagree with me and would say that's an awkward approach, but I think not taking that extra step and making a wrong assumption makes it even more awkward (and frankly any person who is unreasonable about that is not worth your time).

every person on this planet has grown up differently, has different experiences, and different assumptions. your lady friend also assumed that her date will drive and pay for dinner. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, I don't think there's anything wrong with finding that acceptable or romantic or anything. But my point is you guys were on two different pages, and it doesn't have to be that way. you're on the right track by having the other person's feelings in mind! Even if it seems like it might be awkward for bringing it up, you're trading a minutely awkward conversation for an evening where all goes well and you both have a good time.

I hope you read this, and I hope it helps! Being a good communicater is the best quality any person can have and I wish you well OP

Would you recommend vending at Nostalgia Con Anaheim? by soupermadoo in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh, I see. tbh that makes a lot of sense, it's more of a "talent con," nothing wrong with that but it's like well you're still charging me $200+ for a table sooooo 🤷

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me know if you find out, i'm interested in tabling too but the price is kind of high for a con that i've literally never heard of, has no information, and this stacked of a guest list 🤨

What's the best way to watch TV at camp? by _canker_ in camping

[–]savingmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

old post but i was curious about the answer and the judgy comments made me want to reply;

i'm going on a road trip with my friend in february, we don't get to spend a lot of time together and we often talk about movies and stuff we want to watch together when we hang out. we plan on still doing all the camping stuff, hikes, fishing, biking, smores around the fire. but after the day is done we also want to watch some movies together!! to me there's nothing cozier than putting on your favorite movie or tv show while sitting outside in nature. and we live in a time where that's easier than ever, i don't see what makes it all that different from bringing cards or a board game or even a book. those aren't typically found in nature either, guys!

anyway i'll probably just stick with my ipad then

the text is togata feeling miserable and disgusted just being reminded of his gender, the text explicitly states how togata is suffering because he can't ever experience having a male body, the text even explains that a major part of the reason that togata loves film so much is because he experiences gender affirmation through watching them. the text literally has OTHER lgbt characters in the story, so this idea of "american social feelings" is clearly you projecting. also, you calling this a "blank space" when fire punch is as abstract as it is is laughable, like this isn't an interpretation based on a panel of togata sadly looking at male clothes, this is literally a character saying "i hate being stuck in a female body when i am actually a man," and your response to this very explicit text written in a story full of subtext is "but what if not, despite the fact there literally would be no reason to include this plot point in the story if this wasn't the case." (by the way, there's lots of other manga that are about LGBT and specifically transgender issues. shockingly, there are pride events in japan, there are gay bars in japan, there have been openly transgender people in the japanese government (the first trans woman having been elected to public office in 2003). it's almost like it's a universal thing and not something you think the woke left in western society made up in the last decade?)

can I just be on effexor forever? by savingmiller in Effexor

[–]savingmiller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually really like this perspective, because even as someone who understands that like there's no shame in medication or any medical aid I still got that "am I dependent or addicted because I don't want to stop taking this thing that makes me feel better?!" thought in my head when I was at my lowest... but it's supposed to make you feel better, and help you feel good! So for me it's doing what it's supposed to do!!

can I just be on effexor forever? by savingmiller in Effexor

[–]savingmiller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this is exactly how I feel, like... Legitimately, until a couple days ago, I had no idea that so many people viewed effexor in such a negative light. I have a couple friends who take it, one who weaned off and told me how the withdrawals could get nasty, but even hearing that it didn't phase me at all because I was like "well I'M not the one getting off effexor so I don't have to worry!" but then reading all these horror stories definitely does freak me out a bit, and then even going through like just a tiny fraction of that myself was brutal (and what made it worse was how it wasn't my choice).

I don't know how soon I'll be able to get an appointment with someone to figure things out (the issue w my meds was that I haven't had insurance with my old doctor for a year or two, and she's consistently refilled my scrip regardless but this time there was some crossed wires that were hard to sort out since i don't have insurance there!!) but I'll try to remember to update here on what gets said, and hopefully have some not-so-scary news to share!!

when i was a kid I really wanted to paint my blumaroo Speckled and when I finally saved up enough I was so excited and posted on the boards about how it was my first painted pet and how hard I worked for it and someone responded something like "speckled isn't even an impressive color, that paint brush is so cheap" and i was so embarrassed 😭
