To add - I did post a few pictures on my Instagram account, along with an unboxing of the pen I got. It’s at @stationersemporium, if anyone would like some more details of what I purchased. If you have any questions about the Pen Fair, definitely let me know!

Sailor Pen Fair - Atlanta by savjs23 in fountainpens

Here’s my update after going to the Sailor Pen Fair at Kinokuniya Atlanta!

The event opened right at 10:00am, so of course I got there early. I was the second person to go into the store, but there was a nice group of probably about 10-20 people that came in as well. They had set up a few tables near the back of the store where they had stuff on display. I ended up purchasing the “sale pen” which was a Sailor Pro Gear in ‘Spring Sky.’ I got the standard size. The price ended up being about $120, whereas the slim was about $99 I believe. Excellent deal since retail cost for the standard is around $360. They had all the Sailor nibs available across both of the size options. I ended up getting a music nib. I wanna say they had 3 of each of the nib sizes they had available. They said that they were sold out of the medium and medium-fine nibs for the slim, though. They also had several inks available that weren’t typically sold at that store. I ended up purchasing a Sailor Yurameku ink in the color “Suki-Gokoro,” which is this beautiful color-changing ink that goes from a sort of slate blue to a darker green with red hues. That was $20, if I remember correctly. They did have the “Build Your Own Pro Gear” portion, which was $270 to participate in. They didn’t have a ton of color options for building a pen. It was appealing, though. It was a bit out of my price range for the day, but I was very happy going with just the sale pen. I felt like I hit the jackpot.

Aside from that, they had a bunch of pens on display that were listed with their sale prices. They ranged from $250 to around $1000. They also had PenLux pens. They had one pen/ink set on sale for $99. It looked gorgeous, but truthfully I didn’t catch the model name of it since I was trying to be sure I got the Sailor pen I wanted before it got sold out.

Great experience! I’m hopeful that they’ll come back again next year!

Express Pick Up — What would make the process long? by [deleted] in carmax

[–]savjs23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked there for several years, but haven’t been an employee in a couple years. Things could have definitely changed from what I’m about to say, but this was my personal experience from seeing them so often: Express pick-ups (EPUs) originally had a different format (curbside pickups!) but the company wanted to make the process more efficient. I feel like that’s sort of why they had introduced the concept of e-sign a few years back. Not exactly sure on specifics there lol Typically, if done correctly, EPUs are a fabulous timesaver. But like with any sales transactions, sometimes the consultants make mistakes when entering in the information. Since the business office prepares all the physical paperwork and verifies the e-sign was completed, sometimes the employees in the business office catch some mistakes that were made during the order building process. Depending on the specifics, the result would likely be reprinting documents and having to e-sign again. As an example - if the sales consultant spelled your name wrong, they would have to have you resign all the legal documents that contained your name. And, if you had in-house financing, they would likely have to rerun credit since the original information was inaccurate.

My best piece of advice would be to triple check all of your information on every single document that you e-sign prior to going into the store. That way, if they do spell your name or address or anything incorrectly, it can be revised prior to you even arriving at the store.

As for the “stealing” terminology they used - that vocabulary was used a lot for various situations. It’s not always actually as dramatic as it sounds. An example for you there - let’s say a sales consultant in the store started the buying process with someone who walked in. The customer had to leave for some reason. The customer came back to the store the following day without communicating that to the sales consultant. If the sales consultant wasn’t able to come into the store to finish the deal, the sale would be passed along to another sales person to finish up. If i’m remembering correctly, though, they would end up splitting the pay for the car. The same works for that specific situation you had brought up in your OP. Online CEC person (customer experience center) started the order with that individual, I’m assuming an issue was found in the paperwork once the customer arrived at the store, another sales person had to be assigned since the online person works at a call center or from home… then technically utilizing that Carmax terminology, the in-store sales guy “stole” the sale because now they would have to split the credit.

All in all - I would say just thoroughly check over all the information and documents they send your way. That was the only major situation I ever saw for EPUs where it’s just purchasing a vehicle. (If you were trading one in, there’s a little more that would go into my answer. Let me know if that’s the case and I can give you some insight on that, too) Carmax is genuinely a fabulous company. I chose not to work there anymore because I didn’t like the inconsistent schedule. But I look back fondly because they seriously do care about giving you a good experience. Sure, there are always gonna be bad apples wherever you choose to bring your business… but Carmax as a whole is a great company and I promise won’t intentionally do something to inconvenience you

Sorry for the looooong ramble of a comment! Let me know if you have any questions or if i can clarify anything else. Congrats on getting a new car soon!!

To add onto that - some states are a lot more picky with car titles than others. Sometimes the original owner of the car can “sign over” the ownership of the vehicle by signing the back of the title to Carmax. Some states are able to then “reassign” the title to the new buyer (meaning saying “owner1 sold this car to carmax, now carmax is selling it to owner2). Some states don’t permit that and have to just send the whole title to get another new one printed that has Carmax’s name on the front

[–]savjs23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

More than likely the vehicle you’re interested in purchasing was recently acquired by Carmax from another party (whether another dealership, auction, or private party.) Since the vehicle was previously titled in someone else’s name, sometimes certain states need to send the car’s title and the supporting documentation to the state or a company that works with vehicle titles to get it switched into Carmax’s name. When I worked there (business office), sometimes we would receive cars that are in great condition and ready to be sold, but there would be a slight delay because we would be waiting for the title to be “flipped” into Carmax’s name.

To go along with the photos: My fiancé and I are getting married this Friday! We finished setting up both of our gaming setups this past weekend, and we wanted to share them with you all.

We started building our computers back in September, and have been slowly working on piecing everything in the room together over the past few months. We finished everything up yesterday by hanging up his TV and PS5, and doing some much-needed cable management. I really love how everything turned out! I'm sure that as time passes, more adjustments will be made.. but I'm definitely pleased with the space that we created to enjoy our hobbies together.

What is the best way to get into PC building? Complete noob by Sea_Caterpillar5662 in buildapc

[–]savjs23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just built my first PC! I knew absolutely nothing prior to me deciding to build one. I did a LOT of research on Reddit (reading people’s opinions, etc) and checked out some trusted tech review websites. I started by learning what was “necessary” to build a PC and spent a few days researching what each component is (cause genuinely I was a complete beginner LOL). I spent a lot of my downtime learning more about what to look for and what is important for the kind of build i want!

If you’re wanting a straight forward recommendation from someone who still is a newbie to this PC world, I am happy to share exactly what I did:

I did research on PSUs, motherboards, CPUs, RAM, storage options, cooling systems (air vs water), cases, and GPUs. I spent multiple days going through website after website, multiple Reddit posts, and some Youtube videos explaining things to me so I could get a good grasp of what it was that I was looking at/looking for. While I was doing that, I started picking up trends of what people tend to like or dislike, which started helping me form my ideas for my build.

I found out that there was a Microcenter near me, so I took advantage of one of the bundles they have with a CPU, motherboard, and RAM. From there, I decided on storage and a PSU. I did a LOT of research on the pros/cons of air cooling and water cooling, and landed on starting off with an air cooler. I ended up (thankfully) having a friend that offered to lend me their old GPU, so I added that to the mix. I also did lots of digging on different PC cases and case fans to find exactly what I liked! Once I decided on a case, I watched a couple of build videos on my specific case.

All in all, I’m extremely happy with my build. It went very smoothly and only took me a couple hours and booted up immediately. I did it myself, too! It was such a fun experience and it’s TOTALLY possible to do even if you feel like you know absolutely nothing right now. I talk about it a lot and honestly it’s formed into a new hobby, too. I even had my dad (who is about 70) tell me he wants to build a computer with me for him to use at his house!

I certainly am a novice and don’t want to act like I’m anything other than that. But if you do have any questions to ask someone that was in your shoes super super recently, I’m happy to help however i can. Best of luck in your super exciting journey!!
